Wilson Benesch Unveils GRAVITON Ti Tonearm at High End Munich

Wilson Benesh collaborates with Dohmann Audio to launch its GRAVITON Ti tonearm at High End Munich 2025.

Wilson Benesch proclaims it continues in "Leading the New Era in Analogue" with its GRAVITON Ti tonearm, the latest addition to the company's acclaimed GMT Analogue Collection.

Evolving from the armwand variant provided with the iconic GMT One System Turntable introduced in 2023, the GRAVITON Ti Tonearm is a standalone tonearm system, developed for compatibility with the Dohmann Helix One Mk3 turntable.

The GRAVITON Ti tonearm benefits from the legacy of the original with research under the EU SSUCHY Project confirming the tonearm's design principles, including its hyperbolic curve geometry for material efficiency and strength, 0/90° fibre orientation for maximum torsional stiffness and energy dissipation, and monolithic construction to eliminate reflective energy boundaries between parts.

In true Wilson Benesch form, the GRAVITON Ti tonearm incorporates a high level of engineering and material science, featuring a single-piece, moulded carbon fibre armtube reinforced with a graphene epoxy matrix.

South Yorkshire-based Wilson Benesch states the GRAVITON Ti Tonearm "transcribes rather than colours" the musical signal thanks to a geometry that mitigates sympathetic vibrations, enabling the cartridge stylus to extract information with absolute precision.

Drawing upon decades of research and in collaboration with The FEMTO Institute (France) and Sheffield Hallam University, the structure combines uni-directional carbon fibre, quadruple helix construction, and a Rohacell sandwich core—this, says Wilson Benesh, results in a tonearm with exceptional stiffness and class-leading damping which leads to accurate signal reproduction.

The counterbalance and pivot structures of the GRAVITON Ti tonearm are realised using Selective Laser Sintered (SLS) titanium, developed in collaboration with Dr James Hunt (University of Sheffield), the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, Renishaw PLC, and Professor Morvan Ouise (FEMTO Institute).

Inspired by natural lattice geometries found in human anatomy, Wilson Benesch has used generative design tools to create internal tessellated titanium structures that are said to maximise stiffness while minimising weight, deliver exceptional damping aided by un-sintered powdered titanium to absorb vibrational energy and optimise the centre of gravity for mechanical precision.

Wilson Benesch has also adapted its "over-arm" STAGE One design to integrate seamlessly with the Dohmann Helix One Mk3 Turntable.

The STAGE One allows the tonearm wire to be terminated into a copper-shielded structure positioned less than an inch from the end of the GRAVITON Ti Tonearm. The manufacturer says this minimises the exposure of the delicate, unshielded signal path to radio frequency interference (RFI), ensuring the signal is protected at its most vulnerable point.

Moreover, this design is said to have mechanical benefits, as any interference imposed by the tonearm wire can interfere with the arm's precision. By positioning the STAGE One directly over the tonearm pivot, it eliminates all mechanical forces from the wire.

We are told that this structurally integrated approach removes compromises, enhances mechanical isolation, and reinforces signal integrity at the critical point of signal extraction.

Wilson Benesch will produce the GRAVITON Ti Tonearm in three finishes. The tonearm will ship in Matt Titanium as standard, with Polished Silver and Polished Gold upgrade options across all titanium components.

Visitors to the High End Munich show can experience the GRAVITON Ti Tonearm for the first time in the Dohmann demonstration room found on the Ground Floor, Hall 4, F-001.

The Wilson Benesch GRAVITON Ti tonearm is available now with shipments starting in Q4 2025 for an MSRP of £30,000/ €39,500 / US$45,000 in Matt Titanium finish. Optional finish upgrades are available at extra cost.
