SVS Introduces 5000 R|Evolution Series Subwoofers

SVS boasts that its new 5000 R|Evolution Series subs bring "reference low-frequency performance" to more home cinema and music fans.
The new SB-5000 and the PB-5000 R|Evolution from SVS borrow trickle-down tech from its 17-Ultra R|Evolution series. They feature a 15-inch driver and dual monoblock amplifiers. Moreover, the US brand states that the onboard DSP is the most powerful processing engine ever used in a subwoofer.

The main difference between the new designs is that the SB-5000 is a sealed cabinet subwoofer with a claimed frequency response of 17Hz—280Hz (+/-3dB), whereas the larger PB-5000 offers a ported cabinet and a claimed frequency response of 13Hz to 180Hz (+/-3dB) in extended mode and with both ports open. Both versions are loaded with a new SVS 15-inch driver that sports a dual, flat, edge-wound three-inch voice coil to improve current stability.

The lightweight and rigid glass-fibre laminated cone is partnered by a long-throw parabolic NBR rubber surround for extreme excursion, sound pressure levels, and longevity, resulting in what the manufacturer describes as "tactile sonic energy."

A copper-clad aluminium voice coil wire combines the best properties of both elements, which we're told helps yield "ideal thermal capacity and magnetic field strength" within the 21kg toroidal ferrite magnet motor.
The brand states the drivers are built to handle the "most punishing playback while rendering even the subtlest sonic details with refinement at peak and moderate listening levels."

The subwoofers are powered by a 2,000-watt RMS, 5,000+-watt peak dual STA-2000D Class-D amplifier. Meanwhile, a 295MHz Analog Devices DSP orchestrates every amplifier function to shape in-room response and stabilise AC voltage delivery while managing a multi-point thermal and current monitoring system for optimal performance and efficiency.

User- and room-friendliness is enhanced via the SVS app, which offers calibration and adjustments to volume, low pass filter, polarity, and room gain compensation. The PB-5000 also provides port tuning via the app. Moreover, three memory presets offer easy system adjustments to match listening preferences.

Both models are available from this month, with the SVS SB-5000 priced at £2,500 / A$4,999.99 in Black Ash and £2,600 / A$5,199.99 in Piano Gloss Black. The SVS PB-5000 comes in at £3,150 / A$6,299.99 for Black Ash and £3,250 / A$6,499.99 for Gloss.
