Stack Audio SmoothLAN Regenerator Isolates, Optimises & Reclocks

Stack Audio's SmoothLAN Regenerator joins last year's SmoothLAN and promises the optimal environment for high-fidelity music streaming by filtering, regenerating, and reclocking the network signal.
According to Stack Audio, the SmoothLAN Regenerator features advanced isolation, optimised grounding, precision clocking and a low-noise power supply, ensuring a pure digital network signal for streamers and music players.

Measuring 23x80x105mm [HxWxD] and designed to be used independently with a single network player, the SmoothLAN Regenerator features a single pair of input and output ports to avoid unnecessary network interference and cross-talk that can be generated by multiport switches.
The British brand adds that its new device works at 100Mbps (Compatible with 1Gbps networks), which is sufficient for high-res music streaming while ensuring effective filtering without degrading the digital signal.

We are told that the Regenerator utilises dual passive filtering and triple active reclocking to deliver an ultra-clean, noise-free connection for superior audio performance.
The SmoothLAN Regenerator combines dual-layer passive filtering with three cascaded active jitter attenuation stages that synchronise the data to a high-precision, low-phase-noise internal master clock.
The master clock is housed in a separate isolated cavity, shielded against thermal fluctuations and EMI.

Each circuit block has an independent power supply to prevent interference, with the clock supply especially isolated to reduce phase noise and jitter.
The unit's machined aluminium case acts as an RF shield, while compartmentalised internal design isolates circuits to minimise cross-talk. Gold-plated grounding paths further reduce noise, ensuring pristine audio fidelity.
The SmoothLAN Regenerator features a custom power supply with multi-stage filtering and active regulation for stable, ultra-low noise performance.

Stack Audio's new device comes supplied with a 0.5m "high-quality" oxygen-free copper (OFC) CAT7 cable with individual shielding, ensuring minimal noise interference for connecting the Regenerator to the network player.
Available in black or silver, the Stack Audio SmoothLAN Regenerator is priced at £750, including cable. Pricing and availability in other regions have not yet been confirmed.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
