Sennheiser's Custom Comfort Tips pilot project looks to be kicking off using journalists and creators attending High End Munich 2023.

The company, now owned by Swiss hearing-aid company, Sonova, has joined forces with German hearing-aid manufacturer GEERS to offer select attendees to this year's High End show held at the MOC, Munich, to have their ears scanned to create custom-fitted tips for Sennheiser's IE 200, IE 300, IE 600 and IE 900 earphones.

The performance and comfort upgrade that custom eartips can bring to IEMs has long been known in both the pro and consumer audio fields, especially by professional singers and musicians relying on custom in-ear monitoring when playing festivals and arenas.

It is hoped that if the pilot proves successful, Sennheiser could move forward and offer custom tips as part of, or as an optional extra, for the next wave of IE-series earphones, making them even more attractive to those not quite ready to enter the more expensive world of high-end custom IEM brands, especially given how much we enjoyed the IE 200.

Also at the Munich show, Sennheiser will bring the recently-reviewed HD 660S2 open-backed headphones alongside the "legendary" HE 1 electrostatic headphones that boast an ultra-wide frequency range from 8Hz to 100kHz and a distortion factor of just 0.01 percent at a sound pressure level of 100dB.
