Seismion Launches Next-Gen Active Isolation Tech

Seismion Reactio 2, an active vibration isolation system, has been released, with the brand now available to UK audio fans, thanks to Hi-Fi Doctor.

Seismion specialises in advanced mechatronic systems and vibration technology, and its latest innovation, Reactio 2, is now arriving at retailers, including in the UK for the first time.

The German specialist Seismion focuses on active vibration isolation, leading to products that meet the rigorous demands of both industrial applications, such as semiconductor production and metrology, as well as high-end audio. Each isolator is hand-finished in Hannover, Germany, using "premium components."

We are told that the company utilises its in-depth knowledge to address the complex vibration challenges presented by powerful audio systems, which often comprise vulnerable signal-carrying equipment, such as turntables, which are particularly susceptible, as vibrations can be indistinguishable from the music information itself.

Many other components, including valves, are also microphonic, meaning vibrations can directly influence the output signal of valve amplifiers.

Seismion's Reactio 2 is a high-performance active vibration isolation system designed to offer "unrivalled performance" in mitigating the unwanted vibrations that are so detrimental to music playback.

Initially developed for demanding industrial applications requiring precise vibration control, Seismion states that Reactio 2's active system incorporates highly sensitive piezoelectric sensors that detect even the most minute vibrations. An all-analogue electronic control circuit then generates precise counter forces, minimising distortions and noise.

The 500 x 400 mm Reactio 2 can be used for individual components, such as turntables and valve amplifiers, as well as loudspeakers and entire systems, with a maximum payload of 65 kg. For heavier components and systems, the Seismion Reactio 2 XL (600 x 500 mm) is rated up to 150 kg.

Reactio 2's core feature is said to be its "exceptional isolation capability", effective even in the sub-Hertz range. This allows for efficient isolation of common building vibrations, with a reduction exceeding -20 dB around 5 Hz, where disturbances are typically most pronounced. Among the key enhancements and specifications of the Reactio 2 is a more than -10 dB reduction at 1 Hz.

Equipped with multiple deflection sensors and motors, the Reactio 2 includes automatic levelling functionality, ensuring the top plate remains perfectly aligned with a repeatability of 25 µm, thereby optimising sensor and actuator operation.

A push-button mechanism provides locking capability, enabling the top plate to be securely locked against the housing and eliminating passive isolation, thereby facilitating the stable setup of sensitive equipment, such as turntables.

The vibration sensors utilise differential measurement technology, significantly reducing susceptibility to interference compared to standard single-ended designs, says the brand. For enhanced passive resonance damping, particularly at higher frequencies, the top and bottom plates are now constructed from premium MDF.

Seismion products are now available in the UK, thanks to an exclusive distribution agreement with Hi-Fi Doctor, a new distributor with a 50-year background in the AV industry.

Speaking about Seismion's availability in the UK, a Hi-Fi Doctor spokesperson told StereoNET:

The availability of the Reactio 2 in the UK marks a new opportunity for British audiophiles to experience a professional-grade solution for vibration isolation designed to enhance the purity of audio in high-performance systems.

The Seismion Reactio 2 is available now, priced at £10,250/ US$16,000, alongside the Reactio 2 XL, costing £12,750/ US$19,000. Both are available in customised colours and finishes upon request. We are awaiting confirmed pricing for other markets.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
