NODE Audio Splits the ATOM with Bold New Loudspeaker Range

British manufacturer NODE Audio has debuted its new ATOM loudspeaker range, a bold addition to the company’s Cambridge-based portfolio that aims to combine cutting-edge acoustic engineering with striking industrial design.

The ATOM line launches with two models: the ATOM 525 standmount (with optional matching stand) and the larger ATOM 650 floorstander. Both feature NODE’s proprietary Helical Transmission Line (HTL) system, a patented design that directs the woofer’s output into a central chamber before projecting it through a helical pathway. The result, NODE claims, is bass that extends far deeper than expected for each cabinet size, with a sense of authority and control often reserved for much larger designs.

Alongside HTL, NODE debuts its MonoCell damping system, an additive-manufactured lattice that replaces traditional fibrous damping. Acting as both cabinet bracing and acoustic control, it is said to dramatically reduce unwanted resonances, ensuring lower distortion and a more transparent presentation.

Every detail of the enclosure has been engineered for performance. The sculpted form eliminates hard edges that can scatter sound, while careful driver alignment preserves coherence across the soundstage. Ultra-lightweight midrange units dispense with the conventional spider suspension, allowing improved freedom of movement and clarity. Cabinets are wrapped in bespoke multi-layer acoustic fabric, with structural elements machined from billet aluminium for strength and visual refinement.

Commenting on the new models, NODE Audio co-founder David Evans told StereoNET

We set out to create a loudspeaker that is both technically extraordinary and emotionally engaging — ATOM is that speaker.

While demonstrations of pre-production models are being held this weekend at the UK HiFi Show Live in Ascot, NODE is clear that ATOM is positioned as a long-term flagship series designed and built entirely in Cambridge. Those who get to hear it first will, quite literally, be amongst the first to experience what happens when NODE “splits the ATOM.”

The ATOM 525 standmount is priced in the region of £13,000, with the dedicated ATOM 525 Stand at £1,700. The larger ATOM 650 floorstander will retail for around £18,000. Availability is expected through NODE Audio’s specialist dealer network, with final production deliveries scheduled following its show debut.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
