Monitor Audio has announced that its Hyphn flagship loudspeaker is now available in more than 200 custom finishes, giving the already distinctive high-end design a new level of visual personalisation.

Available to order now, the Hyphn Custom Finish Editions are hand-painted and hand-built in the UK, with each pair commissioned to order. Monitor Audio says the programme lets owners specify a finish that better suits individual interiors and listening spaces, extending the appeal of a loudspeaker that was conceived as a showcase for the company’s design, engineering and manufacturing capability.
The Monitor Audio Hyphn loudspeaker uses a groundbreaking, 11-driver array split across two pillars. The drivers are uniquely configured to minimise distortion and eliminate cabinet vibration.

The Hyphn takes its name from the architectural term 'hyphen', which is a link connecting two separate structures – referring, of course, to the cabinet's twin pillar orientation, with the 'hyphen' between them housing the M-Array, which clusters a single MPD III (Micro Pleated Diaphragm) tweeter surrounded by six 2-inch RDT III (Rigid Diaphragm Technology) midrange drivers. This configuration creates a point-source acoustic array, yielding pinpoint imaging and a massive soundstage.

StereoNET readers may already know Hyphn from David Price’s review, in which he described it as “one of the most impressive and innovative new high-end loudspeakers” he had heard in a long time. Price also noted that the Hyphn was “a bold and innovative product that doesn’t really sound like anything else on the market”, underlining why this latest move feels perfectly in-keeping with its singular design and not a simple colour-chart expansion.

The speaker’s sculptural cabinet is precision-milled from a composite of acrylic, minerals and natural pigments, creating a seamless form designed to help suppress unwanted vibration. With the new custom programme, that same cabinet becomes something of a blank canvas, with Matte, Gloss and Metallic finishes now available across a palette of more than 200 colours.
Each custom Hyphn cabinet is painted by hand in the UK before final assembly by a specialist team at Monitor Audio’s headquarters in Rayleigh, Essex. Customers should allow around three months from order to delivery.

Three standard finishes remain available: Matte Heritage Green (above), Matte Black and Pure Satin White. The Custom Finish Editions sit above these as a more personalised option for buyers who want the Hyphn’s visual impact tuned as precisely as its sound.

In his StereoNET verdict, Price praised the speaker’s “super-detailed, ultra-low distortion sound” and said its “glass-clear midband” made familiar recordings feel “fresh, shiny and new”. The review went on to earn Hyphn a StereoNET Applause Award, further cementing the model’s status as Monitor Audio’s most ambitious loudspeaker to date.

Monitor Audio's Hyphn in the Standard Finish Collection is priced at £70,000 (the same in € and US$) per piece, while the new Custom Finish Editions are priced at £80,250 (the same in € and US$) per piece. Hyphn Custom Colours are available to order now.
