After performing concerts in North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia, the final piece of the puzzle was an hour long show, appropriately dubbed "Freeze 'Em All". An hour long show played to 120 scientists and competition winners in Antarctica in December 2013, this leg of the tour wasn't your traditional loud concert Metallica are known for. In fact, not even the 300 odd penguins that were present had much to listen to.

Metallica Antarctica

Metallica’s lead vocalist, James Hetfield commented, “Seven continents in one year with Antarctica being THE gig of a lifetime".

The sub-zero icy climate presented a real challenge for such a live performance. Playing in a transparent dome, amplifiers were enclosed in isolation cabinets, and sound was transmitted to the audience via Sennheiser headphones. Not dissimilar to "silent discos" which are slowly gaining momentum around the world.

Metallica will enter the 2015 Guiness World Records as being the first musical act to perform a concert on every continent.
