Marshall Announces New Motif II A.N.C. Earphones

Building on a great foundation from its predecessor, Marshall has announced the new Motif II A.N.C.

With a look that’s very reminiscent to the original Marshall Motif A.N.C., the earbuds sport a 6mm dynamic driver enclosed in a plastic chassis that’s made with 70% post-consumer recycled plastic from used electronics, water bottles and automotive light covers, making this a a great step forward in the brand’s sustainability efforts.

There’s IPX5 water resistance in the earbuds, which is par for the course, but the charging case surprisingly also has IPX4 water resistance, which is definitely a nice surprise.

The active noise cancellation (ANC) has been improved, with two microphones in each earbud dedicated to ANC along with a third microphone included for calls. Marshall claims the environmental noise cancelling has been improved as well, resulting in better clarity when taking phone calls.

Battery life has also taken a leap forward, with Marshall claiming six hours in the earbuds with ANC turned on and nine hours without. With the case, the battery life stands at a total of 30 hours when ANC is turned on and 43 hours when it’s off. That’s a 10-hour or 17-hour difference from the original Motif A.N.C., which makes this a notable improvement. There’s also wireless charging in the case, with a 15 minute quick charging giving an hour of playback time.

Perhaps more importantly, Marshall has implemented Bluetooth 5.3 LE on these earbuds, which means there’s support for LC3 (Low Complexity Communications Codec). The LC3 codec promises superior sound compared to SBC while offering lower power consumption and lower latency. Combined with Marshall’s sound quality, we’re excited to hear how good these earbuds can sound.

The Marshall Motif II A.N.C. will be available from 12 September onwards globally, and is expected to sell for $199.99 USD.

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality.
