Called the N1, the new model is positioned as an “audio grade” switch, designed to minimise noise entering a system via network infrastructure — an area that’s become increasingly scrutinised as streaming performance improves. It also follows the recent release of LUMIN’s P2 Network Music Hub, signalling a broader focus on system-level optimisation across the brand’s lineup.
Network switches aren’t usually the first thing people think about in a hi-fi system, but they’ve become part of the conversation as streaming has evolved. LUMIN’s view is that the network itself can play a role in overall system performance, and the N1 is built around that idea.

At the centre of the N1 is a built-in linear power supply, replacing the switching supplies typically found in standard networking hardware. LUMIN says this helps maintain a lower noise floor, reducing the risk of electrical interference being carried downstream into connected audio components.
Connectivity is split between four SFP optical ports and six isolated RJ45 Ethernet inputs. The inclusion of SFP allows users to implement fibre connections, effectively providing galvanic isolation from the wider home network. In practice, that means breaking the electrical path between devices — something often cited as beneficial in noise-sensitive systems.

The N1 also includes a 10MHz external clock input, so it can be paired with an outboard master clock — including LUMIN’s own U2X or third-party options. The idea is to tighten up timing, although, as with many things in network audio, how much of a difference that makes will come down to the system it’s used in.
LUMIN has also added what it calls a “Stealth Mode”, which simply turns off all the front-panel LEDs. The thinking here is to remove any small amounts of high-frequency noise generated by the display circuitry, as part of a broader push to keep interference to a minimum.

In terms of design, the N1 sticks with LUMIN’s familiar look, with a machined aluminium chassis offered in silver or black. It’s clearly intended to sit neatly alongside the brand’s existing streamers and digital components.
While positioned as a natural partner for LUMIN systems, the N1 is not restricted to LUMIN’s hardware and can be used with any networked audio setup.

The LUMIN N1 is available now through authorised dealers, with pricing set at US$1,980 | €2,280 | A$3,880.
