LUMIN Introduces P2 Network Music Hub

LUMIN has announced the P2, a new Network Music Hub designed to sit at the centre of a modern high-end audio system by combining streaming, digital-to-analogue conversion and pre-amplification into a single chassis.

Building on the foundation laid by the well-regarded P1, the new model introduces LUMIN’s latest processing platform alongside DAC technology derived from the company’s flagship X-Series components. The result, according to LUMIN, is greater processing headroom and improved precision in both signal handling and analogue output.

At the core of the P2 is LUMIN’s latest System-on-Chip processing architecture, which the company says significantly increases available computing power for tasks such as upsampling and digital signal management. The platform supports playback up to PCM 32-bit/384kHz and native DSD512, placing it firmly in the upper tier of contemporary network players.

The DAC stage moves closer to LUMIN’s reference models, employing dual ESS ES9038PRO SABRE DAC chips in a dual-mono configuration. The analogue output stage also borrows from the company’s flagship designs, using Lundahl output transformers intended to preserve signal isolation and channel separation.

Supporting this architecture is a newly integrated dual-toroidal linear power supply housed within the P2’s full-width chassis. LUMIN says the separate analogue and digital power rails help maintain stability while reducing noise across the signal path.

The P2 continues the “hub” concept introduced with the P1, offering a wide range of connectivity intended to accommodate both hi-fi and media sources. In total, the component provides nine digital and analogue inputs, including USB, balanced and unbalanced analogue connections, SPDIF, AES and HDMI.

HDMI support extends to HDMI 2.0 with 4K passthrough and ARC compatibility, allowing the unit to function as the audio centre of a two-channel TV system. CEC volume control has also been added to simplify integration with television setups.

Timing accuracy is managed by a dual femto clock system, with LUMIN using FPGA-based distribution to minimise jitter and maintain precise signal timing. For network connectivity, the P2 also supports optical fibre networking, providing galvanic isolation from conventional Ethernet networks in an effort to reduce electrical interference entering the audio chain.

Like other models in the range, the P2 is controlled through the LUMIN app for iOS and Android, while also supporting third-party platforms including Roon, JPLAY and Audirvana. Streaming services available through the platform include Spotify Connect, TIDAL (with TIDAL MAX support), Qobuz, KKBOX, TuneIn, Amazon Music and AirPlay.

LUMIN positions the P2 as a flexible component capable of operating as a standalone streamer, a DAC, a digital pre-amplifier, or as the central hub for a complete two-channel system. The company also suggests pairing it with its LUMIN Amp, using the platform’s Leedh Processing lossless volume control to drive a power amplifier directly without the need for a traditional analogue preamp.

LUMIN is expected to confirm pricing and availability for the P2 in the coming days.
