Kali Audio HP-1 Multi-Reference Headphones Released

Kali's first over-ear DSP-powered headphones offer profiles for both professionals and consumers alike.
The HP-1 are Kali's first over-ear, DSP-powered headphones that the company claims "provide users with a neutral, accurate representation of their mix, as well as the ability to hear how their work will sound on the most popular headphones in use today."

The Kali HP-1 is a closed-back, over-ear headphone weighing 150g and featuring 40mm drivers that provide a claimed frequency response of 18 Hz to 22 kHz.
Additionally, it offers three voicings, including Studio, which aims for a flat and natural response. Meanwhile, Bass Heavy is designed to please fans of hip-hop and EDM. There is also a Consumer mode, which Kali states "replicates the sound of popular headphones sold alongside phones and computers".

Switch between any of these settings, and an LED on the right ear changes colour to indicate the tuning you've selected, as well as a voice prompt that lets you know what you're listening to.

Kali is clearly targeting both music professionals as well as casual listeners with the HP-1s. It features both a wired connection via a 3.5mm jack and a Bluetooth connection. And whilst the company claims the headphones have "the highest fidelity playback for serious studio use", these one-stop-shop cans also deliver features such as noise cancelling and wireless calling.

The battery stamina for the Kali HP-1's ANC and wireless capabilities lasts for a reported 40 hours of playback on a full charge, with recharging facilitated via the included USB-C cable. They also come in a zippered carrying case to protect them while travelling and a 3.5 mm to ¼-inch headphone adapter.

The Kali Audio HP-1 is available globally now with an SRP of US$199 | £199 | €199.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
