JICO Clipper-S Designed For Straight-Shooters

The new JICO Clipper-S cartridge and headshell have been precision-engineered for straight tonearms.

JICO's Clipper-S is a new Moving Magnet (MM) cartridge and headshell system, specifically designed for straight tonearms and built on the success of the wonderfully retro-futurist styled original JICO Clipper, which was developed for S- and J-shaped arms.

Touted for eliminating potential misalignment caused by using headshells designed for S-shaped arms, the Clipper-S features a precision-angled headshell that ensures proper cartridge alignment, accurate tracking, and natural, balanced sound reproduction when fitted to a straight arm.

The Clipper-S boasts "the world's first tapered S-cantilever with a solid conical diamond stylus" that promises "exceptional clarity and dynamics across the frequency range", which we assume is the same as the OG Clipper's 20Hz to 20kHz range, with an output voltage range of 5.0mV to 8.0mV.

It also offers dual compatibility with JICO's MM Clipper stylus and SHURE-44 replacement styli, and is fully compatible with KORG's handytraxx series, including the handytraxx Tube and handytraxx 1bit portable turntables.

Greg Chapman, co-founder of Feel Flows Audio, JICO's UK distributor, told StereoNET:

There's growing interest in straight-arm decks in the UK market, particularly among younger vinyl enthusiasts. The Clipper-S provides a beautifully engineered, Japanese-made solution that fits seamlessly with these turntables.

The JICO Clipper-S is available now at a retail price of £399.95.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
