Goldmund Melos Passive Standmount Speakers Unveiled
Goldmund's Melos Passive loudspeakers are pitched as a “synthesis of sound, design, and engineering excellence”.
Wrapped in Goldmund's iconic grey aluminium finish, Melos Passive is equipped with a high-end soft dome tweeter paired with a 7-inch mid/bass unit in a front vent-loaded cabinet. We are told that the drivers reproduce sound with “extreme precision, offering extended frequency response and exceptional dynamic range”. The full details of the Melos Passive's frequency range were not included in the spec sheet; however, we do know that the speakers have a 6 ohms nominal impedance.
The name Melos is apparently an homage to the melodies of ancient Greece, which Goldmund hopes captures the essence of this speaker's capability – to deliver musical harmony and tune with unparalleled precision.
Goldmund tells us that the drivers are at the end of “advanced crossover technology”, ensuring seamless frequency integration and optimum dispersion, and we can expect “a truly immersive and realistic soundstage”.
Naturally, as with all of Goldmund's products, we can expect exquisite fit and finish. Goldmund states that the Melos Passive embraces the legacy of its larger recently announced sibling, Tethys, while drawing inspiration from £500,000+ flagship Gaïa, seamlessly fusing advanced technology with timeless aesthetics.
Measuring 35 x 25 x 36.2 cm (HxWxD) and weighing 20 kg per unit, the sleek, monolithic cube of the Melos Passive promises to be engineered with utmost precision.
An accompanying bespoke stand will also be available soon, designed to seamlessly blend with the speaker's aesthetic, further enhancing its integration within any environment.
Crafted by meticulous artisans within the hallowed halls of Geneva, this passive loudspeaker is the culmination of precision and passion. The finest materials are carefully selected, and rigorous quality control processes are implemented to guarantee that every model meets Goldmund's exacting standards. For example, the gold-plated elements are crafted by a fellow Swiss luxury specialist who also supplies Rolex and Patek Philippe.
Finally, for those more familiar with Goldmund's excellent active and wireless technology, stay tuned as we are informed that the active version will be joining the family imminently as “Goldmund continues its quest to redefine the boundaries of auditory brilliance”.
The Goldmund Melos Passive has a UK RRP of £26,500. Local pricing and availability is yet to be confirmed.

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
