The Gold Note DS‑5.2 streamer‑DAC joins the Italian brand’s 5.2 Series and, although compact (80x200x260mm [HxWxD]), the DS‑5.2 aims to deliver the same design philosophy as the well‑regarded DS‑10 EVO—bringing high‑end digital performance into a more accessible, table-top-friendly format.

Gold Note says the DS‑5.2 was developed with a single goal: to reproduce the true character of a recording. We’re told the company leaned on its extensive archive of reference material to shape the DS‑5.2’s sonic approach. The idea is to distinguish what belongs to the original recording from what is added by the playback chain.

This mirrors Gold Note’s analogue philosophy, in which its phono stages (PH‑5.2, PH‑10, PH‑1000) focus on preserving the recording's identity through precise equalisation. In the digital domain, the DS‑5.2 aims to achieve the same result through careful control of playback behaviour rather than filters or DSP tricks.

Designed as the hub of a contemporary audio setup, the DS‑5.2 includes a colour touchscreen to display cover art and other functions, alongside a full suite of streaming options, including Roon Ready and Connect flavours of TIDAL, Qobuz, and Spotify, with the latter also including its Lossless HD offering.

It shares the same network architecture as the DS‑10 EVO, promising stable and reliable streaming performance.

Gold Note has also equipped the DS‑5.2 with features that broaden its use beyond traditional hi‑fi, including a built‑in line‑level preamp, Bluetooth In/Out, HDMI eARC for TV integration, and a dedicated digital output for use as a pure streamer.

This positions the DS‑5.2 as a flexible device that can slot into stereo systems, desktop setups, TV‑based systems, gaming environments, or compact living spaces without abandoning audiophile priorities.

Despite its size, the DS‑5.2 uses a fully balanced internal layout designed to minimise noise and interference. Gold Note emphasises that the focus is not on exaggerated detail but on long‑term musical coherence, stability, and naturalness.

The DS‑5.2 is compatible with the optional PSX‑5.2 external power supply, allowing you to upgrade performance over time.

Positioned as an entry point into the Gold Note digital lineup, the DS‑5.2 aims to offer the company’s signature design and sonic character in a more compact and approachable package—without being a stripped‑down version of its larger siblings.

The Gold Note DS-5.2 has a recommended retail price of US$1,290 | €1,290 | £1,290.
