Japanese audio accessories brand Furutech has extended its range of high-performance power connectors with the addition of three new IEC models. The new offerings sit just under the range-topping FI-50.

Furutech's connectors are renowned for featuring an impressive array of breakthrough technologies and construction techniques. Many agree that the designs improve the performance of audio and AV systems. The new FI-46 NCF (gold), FI-48 NCF (silver) and FI-48 NCF (rhodium) IEC power connectors are sure to follow suit.
The trio's pure copper conductors are (as their names suggest) plated with gold, silver or rhodium for superior conductivity. Furutech states that the latter in particular provides high-resolution sound reproduction, high-speed response and a high signal/noise ratio.
Furutech Nano Crystal² Formula
All three models have a nylon/fibreglass body with Nano Crystal² Formula (NCF). Created by, and exclusive to, Furutech, NCF features a unique crystalline material that has two 'active' properties. Firstly, it generates negative ions that eliminate static. Secondly, it converts thermal energy into far-infrared. Furutech combines this with nano-sized ceramic particles and carbon powder for their additional 'piezoelectric effect' damping properties.
Also, there is Furutech's patented Floating Field Damper System. Here your equipment benefits from "star-grounding the metal parts in which floating magnetic fields are induced by current flow".

Furutech explains that all the metal parts of the connector are tied together in a way that shunts electrical potentials to ground. The result is significantly lowered noise by reducing distortion.
Each of the three conductors features an aluminium or stainless steel housing incorporating damping and insulation materials selected to improve frequency extension and tonal balance. Additionally, a high-quality metal cable clamp improves grip and reduces mechanically and electrically induced distortion.
Alpha Treatment
Finally, and in common with all Furutech products, all metal parts are 'alpha'-treated: a proprietary process involving cryogenic freezing and ring demagnetisation, designed to significantly improve electrical conductivity.
Price and availability
The new Furutech IEC power connectors are available now at the following prices (inc. VAT).
- FI-46 NCF Gold - £155
- FI-48 NCF Silver - £195
