Encel’s Raw Gelati Speakers Scoop Up Sweet Sound on a Budget

Following in the footsteps of the original Gelati, which earned its place in many homes thanks to its lively sound and eye-catching looks, the Raw Gelati takes a more understated approach to its design. That said, it aims to impress where it counts: delivering quality sound. With an affordable price tag and adaptable design, the Raw Gelati is an enticing choice for anyone dipping their toes into the world of Hi-Fi for the first time.

At just 300mm tall and with a footprint of 174mm x 224mm, the Raw Gelati is a compact two-way vented-box bass reflex speaker that, based on its specifications, is likely to deliver performance beyond its modest size. Beneath its minimalist Liquorice Black exterior, the Raw Gelati features a re-engineered polypropylene mid/bass driver and a silk-dome tweeter. This combination promises vibrant treble, confident mids, and a rhythmic bass punch. Designed to perform with a recommended amplifier power of 25-100W, a nominal impedance of 4Ω (compatible with 8Ω), and a frequency response of 50Hz to 20kHz (+/-3dB), the speakers also deliver a peak SPL of 96dB, making them a solid bang-for-buck proposition.

The Raw Gelati continues the Gelati family’s tradition of adaptability. It offers the option to install one of 12 magnetic grille colours with options such as Eucalyptus Green, Ocean Blue, Lemon Yellow, and Coffee Brown. Swapping out these grilles takes seconds, allowing users to personalise and refresh their speakers appearance to suit their style or mood. 

According to Sam Encel, the company’s lead designer, the Raw Gelati was created to deliver “outstanding sound” at an even more accessible price point.

To keep costs low, we’ve simplified the design, focusing on performance and a single finish. For those who enjoy customisation, the vibrant Gelati grilles are available as an optional extra.

Encel has adopted eco-friendly practices for the Raw Gelati to keep it in step with current consumer expectations. The packaging minimises disposable materials, and detailed instructions are available online, reducing paper waste. Encel are backing the Raw Gelati with a five-year manufacturer’s warranty.

The Raw Gelati loudspeakers are available now in Australia with a recommended retail price of A$479 and will launch in New Zealand in February 2025 at NZ$549.
