Earmen Colibri is a new Battery Powered Balanced DAC / Headphone Amp

Chicago-based Earmen has announced its latest release; the Colibri Battery-powered Premium Balanced DAC/Headphone amp/Preamp.

Promoted by the company as "everything you wanted and everything you needed", the Colibri is an affordable solution to ensuring the highest quality music playback on the go.

The specially designed, balanced, battery-powered device is small but strong in performance, offering up to 5 hours of charge. Battery power provides ultra-clean and stable DC current, avoiding the issues of noise-inducing RFI/EMI pollution.

The heart of the Colibri is the flagship of the ESS line ES9281 PRO DAC. The ESS SABRE PRO series sets a new benchmark in high-end audio by offering the highest dynamic range (DNR) with impressively low levels of total harmonic distortion plus noise (THD+N). Colibri supports Hi-Res PCM files up to 32bit/384kHz PCM, DoP, DSD64, DSD128 and MQA.

The Earmen Colibri's buttons provide you full control of the device and music without using your source or phone. Crafted from an aluminium block and CNC milled, it offers exceptional durability.

Inputs include USB C Female (DATA), USB C Female (Charging). Outputs offered include Balanced 4.4mm and SE 3.5 mm. Power output is stated as up to 280mW@32Ω and up to 560mW@16Ω (4.4mm), and up to 75mW@32Ω and up to 150mW@ 16Ω (3.5mm). THD +N is quoted as 0.002% (4.4mm) and 0.001% (3.5mm).

Earmen Colibri measures 77 x 35 x 14mm (LxWxH) and weighs in at 51 grams. Available now, it sells in North America for $330 RRP.
