Cyrus 80 Series - Full-Width Evolution

Cyrus proclaims its new 80 Series is a "much larger playground" for its engineers to work their magic.
According to Cyrus, its newly announced 80 Series is an extension of the recently announced 40 Series, whose 40 AMP integrated impressed us when we reviewed it.

When Cyrus launched the 40 Series, the renowned British hi-fi company stated that it marked a "new beginning" and, while its form factor was familiar to fans, there was plenty to be excited about. However, with the introduction of the all-new 80 Series, the Cambridgeshire firm offers a whole new proposition.
Pegged for an official launch in November, the Cyrus 80 Series sports full-width casework offering "seamless integration of both 80 and 40 series products in your home audio system". However, Chris Hutcheson, Head of Marketing, was keen to underline, "Do not panic - this is not a direction change for Cyrus, but rather a smart and logical expansion of the brand."

The new design gives the Cyrus engineering team "a much larger playground for them to really flex their design skills," it also means the 80 Series can incorporate the external power supply unit (the 40 PSU) and all the performance benefits it offers.

The 80 Series includes three products, starting with the 80 AMP streaming amplifier. Taking its streaming smarts from the BluOS streaming platform, it features 150W per channel of Class A/B amplification. It supports TIDAL, Qobuz, and Spotify, is Roon Ready, and offers an in-built MM/MC phono. Illuminated dials, a large touchscreen panel, and a colour display round off the unit's contemporary aesthetic.

Next is a pre/power combo in the shape of the 80 PRE preamplifier, which has the same BluOS networking streaming features as the AMP and is ideally paired with the 80 PWR power amplifier. This model boasts Class A/B amplification rated at 200W per channel and can also be used in mono mode, giving you 300W of bridged power.
With the 80 Series, Cyrus is throwing its hat into the premium hi-fi market and acknowledges putting this range "in direct competition with the likes of Naim, Linn and Hegel." An undeniably bold move.

Moreover, it doesn't appear to be the end of potential surprises from the brand as Nick Clarke, Cyrus MD, tells us, "Also, this latest expansion is far from the end – trust me, there's still more to come!"
The three new 80 Series products will launch in November and sit in the £5,000-£6,000 price range.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
