Burmester Launches the 232 Integrated Amplifier

Designed with modular flexibility, advanced heat dissipation, and an intuitive user interface, the 232 promises audiophile-grade performance.

At first glance, the 232 Integrated Amplifier marks a clear evolution in Burmester’s design language. One of the most striking features on first impressions is the radial heatsink extending from the unit's centre. Burmester claims this revised thermal management system significantly improves heat dissipation, lowering internal temperatures by around 10°C.

The aim is to enhance long-term reliability and keep components operating at their optimal level, reducing the risk of thermal strain while ensuring consistently high performance. Burmester has stayed true to its roots with an analog-dominated circuit design using high-quality operational amplifiers that, according to the company, allow signals to pass through without interference.

As part of the new design the 232 introduces a single multi-functional control interface which the company is calling the ‘HaptiControl’ rotary knob. Replacing multiple buttons and switches, the control responds to both rotational and press movements offering tactile feedback tailored to the function in use. While similar precision-engineered rotary dials have been seen in high-end offerings from brands like Devialet, Linn, and Naim, Burmester’s approach appears to take things a step further by integrating adaptive haptic feedback across multiple functions. Meanwhile, a high-resolution display sits behind mirrored glass, allowing it to disappear completely when in standby mode, adding to the amplifier’s minimalist aesthetic.

Burmester has taken a modular approach to the 232’s functionality. It can be configured as a purely analog integrated amplifier, or for those who demand more flexibility, interchangeable input boards allow for expanded digital and vinyl playback capabilities. An optional DAC module enables high-resolution audio processing up to 768kHz/32-bit, with Burmester touting ultra-low distortion and dynamic playback. Vinyl enthusiasts can opt for a phono module designed for MC cartridges, borrowing circuit technology from Burmester’s highly regarded Phono 100 and 077 Reference preamps.

Connectivity has also improved, with the 232 supporting Tidal Connect, Spotify Connect, and AirPlay straight out of the box. Burmester has confirmed that future over-the-air updates will add Roon Ready certification, USB playback, and internet radio search. An HDMI ARC interface also ensures seamless integration with home entertainment systems.

Another significant change for Burmester is the introduction of the Conduct App, which is available for iOS and Android. The app provides remote control over the amplifier’s core functions. For example, users can now adjust volume, switch inputs, and customise settings such as display brightness and input levels, all from a smart device.

Complementing the launch of the Conduct App, Burmester has introduced the Owners Club customer portal, designed to offer a centralised hub for device management, firmware updates, and feature explanations. Beyond simply providing technical support, the portal aims to enhance the overall user experience, offering personalised product information, software notifications, and exclusive content for Burmester owners. This move reflects a growing trend in high-end audio, where manufacturers are shifting towards more integrated digital ecosystems to improve customer engagement and long-term service support.



The Burmester 232 Integrated Amplifier is priced at A$29,995 for the base unit, with the optional phono module available for A$4,995 and the DAC module for A$9,995. Availability is expected in March.
