Arendal 1610 Real World Loudspeaker Series

Arendal’s 1610 Series of hi-fi and home cinema speakers promise high-end performance in a design that suits a broad range of listening spaces.

With a focus on “real-world” listening cases, Arendal Sound's new 1610 loudspeaker series has been designed to account for imperfect rooms and compromised placement, with the 1610 range envisioned as suitable for getting the most out of your music or for integration into a home cinema system.

The Norwegian company states that every model in the 1610 Series shares “the same acoustic intent and voicing”, which should enable systems to be built or expanded over time without changing the overall character or balance.

Moreover, the new three-way speaker range borrows design DNA from Arendal's flagship 1528 line, including the brand's time-alignment technology, which it proclaims delivers “more coherent wave propagation and more controlled sonic dispersion through carefully shaped waveguides.”

The speakers also feature rigid HDF cabinets that should help deliver more stable, balanced performance across a range of listening environments.

The 1610 Tower 8 floorstanders are equipped with a 28mm aluminium tweeter, a 12.7cm midrange unit, and a trio of 20cm woofers, while the Bookshelf 8 boasts the same 28mm aluminium tweeter and 12.7cm midrange driver, paired with a single 20cm woofer.

The Slim 8 and Centre 8 speakers also feature the same 28mm aluminium tweeter and single 12.7cm midrange driver as their stablemates, with the Centre 8 boasting twin 20cm woofers, compared to the single low-frequency unit in the Slim.

Arendal’s founder, Jan Ove Lassesen, told StereoNET:

With 1610, we’re deliberately moving the reference point. This is high-end sound built for customers who expect real value for their money – not inflated pricing justified by marketing narratives or tradition.

The new 1610 Series is available in Basalt or Polar finishes, priced as follows:

  • 1610 Tower 8: £5,900 | US$7,600 | €6,900 per pair
  • 1610 Bookshelf 8: £2,800 | US$3,600 | €3,300 per pair
  • 1610 Slim 8: £2,200 | US$2,800 | €2,600 per pair
  • 1610 Center 8: £1,800 | US$2,100 | €2,300

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
