dmajgaard Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Hi All, I bought the KEF 3005 speaker package on the weekend and now looking for a Sony amp (to go with my other Sony equipment). Being a newbie I don't understand what the minimum specs of the amp should be. I've been looking at buying either the Sony STRDG720B ($899) or Sony STRDG820B ($1099). Any idea's if these amps would suit the speaker capabilities? Thanks, Dan.
Grizzly Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Gudday Dan and welcome. Is there any reason you would limit your choices to Sony only? There are many good units available depending on other criteria too. 5, 6, or 7.1? Auto set up whiz bangery necessary? HDMI 1, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3? Considering the size of the KEFs you could take them along to the retailer and listen to how it performs. That will give you the best idea. If it sounds crap there's your answer. If it sounds great, again, there's your answer. Let us know how you go mate.
mmickk Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 I was just wondering how the 3005s sound......
troyww Posted December 14, 2008 Posted December 14, 2008 (edited) I picked up the Sony 2400ES for $830 from JB hifi in Joondalup WA last weekend . It's sticker/catalogue price was $844 which ould make it hard to beat at that price point for any brand . Not sure where you are but it goes to show jb's have some room to move on the RRP . cmccarth Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 I know the Sony DG-910's are going very cheap these days, as they are the previous years model. Still have full HDMI audio/video etc, but they have slightly more grunt then the other models you mentioned.
troyww Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/9181 Not sure where you are located but theres some sweet deals on some sony amps . You might like to upgrade your your TV while your at it . The 820 is at $568 so theres a bit of coin saved right there .
