After many years of resisting bread makers, I borrowed one to try for the first time.

 

I'm quite impressed with the results and am now I'm a convert, particularly as the one I borrowed is quite old, well used and probably a fairly cheap model. One downside that I can see is that it was quite noisy - too noisy to be used on the timer and would definitely wake me up in the wee hours of the morning. Are they all like that? If so, I may have to set it up in the nearby shed

 

So I would be most interested to hear of any suggestions on brands/models, or even just tips on what to look out for when choosing a bread maker? I'm willing to pay a lot for the right one. Many thanks for any advice.

I was given an old panasonic, not noisy as such but you can hear it mixing and kneading. Silent for the majority of it's operation though. I use it to do the hard work, then bake in the oven to get a more practical shape loaf.

Yup, Panasonic are the best ones.
