Inline with our governing Website Guidelines - https://stereonet.com/information/website-guidelines

StereoNET is strictly for private enthusiasts and consumers and should not be used for commercial purposes or advantage.
Except for official sponsors and approved advertisers, StereoNET is not to be used to promote a brand, product or company for financial advantage or profit.

And from the Commercial Interests Policy:

You may not start a topic promoting your business or product, nor may you reply to a thread recommending your business or product. For example, if someone asks, "what speakers should I buy?" you may not answer the question by suggesting your speakers. The only exception is within the designated sponsor's area, and even then, only by StereoNET sponsors and advertisers.

This reminder is a direct result of recent threads by budding entrepeneurs wanting to start cable businesses (and soliciting business here on StereoNET). I'll be frank - it's probably one of the easiest businesses to start in this industry, with potentially small outlay, no qualifications or prerequisites required, and a willing audience right here. So we do tend to see these "start-ups" quite often.

However, lessons learned from the Bill's Cables saga dictates today's policy and rules on this (we would most certainly like NOT to again be accused of not doing enough to prevent such a situation). If we even were to provide exposure/allow promotion, and even consider a "sponsor" in this category, they are personally vetted by me, must be a legitimate, registered business, and I would go as far as to say I would even need to personally inspect an item before I would agree. This is especially true if said hobbyist/vendor also offers power related cables and products (which legally have to be tested and receive compliance for the market they are being sold in).

This also applies to the Classifieds advertisements also. As per the first quoted rule above, the odd DIY cable is acceptable, but if we suspect you are selling items made by you for a profit, you will find these advertisements no longer approved.

Threads promoting cable manufacturing, whether a set range or "custom" services will be deleted. We also reserve the right to remove posted links by members to said businesses, though it is unlikely we would need to do this.

Safety before profit. Simple.

OK one user has needed a more obvious reminder about this.

I should add, "Do not send unsolicited messages to other users promoting your custom cable business".

At least two members did not appreciate it!
