Hmmmm. Lowballer Management ....

Featured Replies

Over the years I've bought a few (relatively trivial) things from op-shops with the intention of flipping.

The problem is that I don't get around to doing the flipping and the objects end up contributing to my accumulation of stuff that I need to sort out. So I learned that flipping isn't my style, and I resist the temptation now when in op shops. SNA members can feel safe that my audio purchases will be for me!

Lowballing is never a problem and then one day you go to sit in the car seat and sit on one and the pain is excruciating. It’s just something that happens with age………. Oops I think I’ve misunderstoo

  • Is there one for Flippers as well 🤔

  • I'm not as passionate about it as you are @075Congo I see it differently perhaps. A lowballer wasn't ever really a potential buyer in the first place. They are just an opportunist, and ultimately, i

I just remembered when I used to indulge unashamedly in a bit of flipping. Our biggest electrical store in SA 30 to 40 years ago was Radio Rentals and they used to have regular annual mega-sales in a marquee in the carpark of their biggest store. Often they had very slightly shop-soiled quite reasonable speakers at throw-away prices. As most people buying better quality speakers went to specialist hifi shops, they tended not to sell well at the "box-mover" outlets. So I'd buy a few assorted pairs, have lots of fun trying them out and finding how to get the best out of them and then selling them on via classifieds in the local paper at closer to the RRP than I had paid.

It was fun and made a reasonable profit. It's no surprise to most of us that speakers demoed properly in a nice home-based system sell better than when shoved into the corner of a dark and drafty tent in a car-park.

Fairly certain that if you are a Buyer on Stereonet Classifieds deliberately engaging in "lowballing" and then "flip" the item to make a profit.......well your survival here on Stereonet will be very limited. In all certainty you will be exposed by either the Seller or the various Volunteers who make the Stereonet system work.

Warnings or negative feedback will be more than enough to stop lowballer activity. If not a month in the Sin Bin will definitely catch your attention.
