samcrack Posted January 19, 2023 Posted January 19, 2023 Hey all, hoping someone can help. Looking for off the shelf antennas for this technics units but nothing easy. They dont have connectors that appear standard and i cant find its manual, see pic attached. I thought perhaps buy these and tweak https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/354264078973?hash=item527bc8da7d:g:PUcAAOSwJTpjFrIP&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4Ayr1NXEBnA%2BT1xFkBR%2B6fpXG4bzVWrVx9NA8glfwIvxDvl%2BKAJ4Rm%2FHzXaRVmMsl7bB2h%2FM81hEK32tRg1vxkTQBcgLovzAYNTLDlDHEq1HfgjBmRGqQ5wzHae4hMveyUsubbZENnXGHxZeX7Nz5wcxMDCX%2BX38fJfCKH99B%2BZM19NK%2FRPSeSCoxap204cYBWsrBT2egTfGKKYK9fMQ%2B3u79tIvtzGOLYZJIACO2oT7S%2F9K%2FsqW7NPENjV0f2hu4ZEAu%2FlZH054tz2zVyLZhTH29mv9sfP9mCTMU1LII52c|tkp%3ABk9SR5a2gJW5YQ For the FM Could I just snip the connector off and there will be 2 wires in them? (then connect whatever wire ran to the pin of the connector to the FM 75ohm terminal and the other to the ground terminal?) The AM ports on the back have a screw ground terminal but then an AM loop with RCA female. Do i just have to go buy an rca male connector and connect the white wire from the coax to it? cheers
Mrkropotkin Posted January 19, 2023 Posted January 19, 2023 Have a look on Jaycar webpage https://www.jaycar.com.au/fm-indoor-antenna-300ohm/p/LT3002#:~:text=INDOOR ANTENNA - 300OHM-,FM Indoor Antenna - 300ohm,dipole) gives good performance in strong signal areas.300 ohm termination...., They have a few things

Usually connected by a piece of coax, with the braid clamped under the metal clamp, and centre conductor to the screw terminal. 2
Monkeyboi Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 For FM: Buy a cheap TV antenna cable with a plug that suits your antenna outlet on the wall. The common types are PAL and F connectors. The latter are a screw on connector. Cut one end (the female PAL connector) off the coaxial cable and prepare that end as shown in the attached diagram. The braided shield gets secured under the clamp marked GND and the exposed centre conductor under the terminal marked 75 FM ANT. Connect the end of the cable with the appropriate connector to your antenna socket on the wall. For AM: You've got two options here. 1. Buy a loop antenna coil from your local electronics store. Most come with just bare wires but you might be able to buy one with a male RCA (phono) connector already fitted. If the former you need to solder the bare wires to the centre terminal and outer of a male RCA connector which you will be plugging into the socket marked LOOP ANT. 2. Simply connect a length of insulated wire with a bit of the wire bared to the screw terminal marked AM ANT 1

Hills FM3 is what I had for 20 years, great for FM, But now called Digitek FM3, must have bought Hills out. https://bitek.com.au/digitek-fm3-fm-antenna/ These days I use a Sangean WFT-1Di DAB+, with many more channels, far better sound, kills the FM I had even with one of the best FM tuners a Tandberg 3001 Cheers George 1

Most FM antennae on offer in the stores don't have much gain. Some as low as 0dB. Also they are only suitable for FM 88-108MHz and won't work for DAB+ (which operates at higher frequencies) should you ever buy a DAB+ tuner. I converted an old trash picked Hill Pathfinder TV antenna and removed the UHF elements which BTW you don't have to for it to work effectively. It is easy to remove the UHF section as it just bolts on. This converted trash picked antenna works on Bands 1, 2 and 3 so it covers both FM and DAB with about 9dB of gain. To be compatible with DAB+ it has to be mounted vertically as DAB+ is vertically polarised. FM is mixed polarisation so either vertical or horizontal works for FM. This works very well at my location some considerable way out from the city based transmitters. Old second hand TV antennae go for peanuts on Gumtree and FB marketplace. A horizontal barge mount pole can be purchased from most electronics stores. Edited January 22, 2023 by Monkeyboi spelling error 1
