Taiwan Chinese Tea Dongding Oolong

Featured Replies

I am looking to buy Dongding Oolong Tea from Lugu Township, Nantou County .

A tin was given by a friend but paiseh to ask him where to buy.

The tin is green in colour with just the description Dongding Oolong Tea , Lugu Township, Nantou County and displayed on near a mark is the name Lugu Township Farmers Association.

Will try to post a picture if I can here. Need to learn how to do it so easily by FrancisWu.

Anyone can show how I can take a pick and post?

Thank you very much brother for the website. Very useful. Will contact them by email and show a picture of the tea leaves in the tin for them to identify. Of course different harvests but at least they can supply the closest to the one shown which I like.

Locally you can check out at Yue Hwa in Chinatown, over the counter for loose quantities and also on the shelf. You can ask the ladies at the counter to recommend also.

There are a few other tea shops in Chinatown for you to explore also.

As far as I know in the past, Yue Hwa selsl China teas.

If the past you mean 1970s or 1980s, then I dunno.  When I first step into there in the 1990s they already have Taiwanese teas.

For lovers of Chinese tea may I recommend a FengHuang Danchong from Chaozhou prefecture, China.

It is a tea that you can unmistakably identify whenever you drink with eyes closed. It is one of my favourite. I first tried it in Sg years ago . It is available in a red square tin in loose black leaves and is black tea. Very soothing and what we Chinese describe as 甘.

I was awarded 2 boxes of this type when I attended the Chaozhou clan association dinner last year. This type comes in sachets. It is osmanthus flavoured and also very 甘. Will be going one day to Chinatown to replenish my stock before it runs out.

When you drink good grade Dongding Oolong you may just be addicted to it. You won't forget its taste and fragrance.

Been there in early years but even in 1990s I do occasionally drop in with a friend who is a connoiseur

and we were tasting China tea served by a lady who recommended different flavours of premium teas.

Could have missed them. No mis-information intended.

Just received a reply from Taiwan Leaf Tea to my further enquiry.

"..1. We sell Dong Ding oolongs in 150g vacuum sealed bags. I attached a photo for your reference, how bags are looking for. If you want metallic tin, we can sell it for separate, but it will increase delivery costs due to weight and volume weight.

2. We offer Free Standard Shipping with ordinary post service for all orders from US$60. We use Taiwan post and send parcels with tracking number. Here is link for Taiwan post service: https://www.post.gov.tw/post/internet/U_english/index.jsp?ID=1400024737190

3. If order is less than US$60, delivery price depends on quantity of teas and weight. You can check estimated delivery price putting what are you interested in in cart and then go to cart and estimate delivery costs:

For example, 1 Dong Ding 150g will have delivery cost to Singapore US$7:

4. We accept credit and debit cards and PayPal

5. There is no information in your photo what tea level is inside, normally the package is the same. We have US$11 for Flat and US$19 for Alpine level, so you can choose what you prefer. This price is for a 150g vacuum sealed bag.

6. Our customer service is in Spain as we send world-wide. You can contact by email, it is a more convenient way for communication.

If you have any further questions, I would be happy to answer!

Kind Regards,

Victoria

Thank you for the benefit of those to understand the vacuum packaging.

I have also contacted the teashop you referenced before. Their shipping is really expensive hence I did not go forward to order form them.

If anyone wants to do a bulk order to save on shipping, I don't mind joining in.

In case TS not familiar, I can list down some of the tea shops around Chinatown area to explore.  I bought something from all of them before.  Hope this help.

Thank you for providing the shop names and their locations. This will help existing and potential drinkers to explore and source their teas locally before buyng from overseas unless they prefer a wider variety or something new like season production or special types not commonly available.

This will introduce to members Chinese tea as a beverage and start their journey of China's most common offering to the world.

I am currently drinking Pu'Erh , and 2 types of Taiwan Lugu and Gao Shan tea.

A little "itchy on the throat" so I just bought a few days ago thie FengHuang DanCong " DUCK **** TEA"

froma chap who has his group plantation in ChaoZhou.

I paid $45/ now on promotion for a metal tin with content of 250grams (usual $52 without Gift) and it also comes with with a gift of a Tea Flask for making Chinese Tea on the go. The flask is heavy though, metal and glass I suppose. Not yet in the mood to taste the tea. It is the tea I am trying not the Gift that came with it.  He is at Sengkang side.

Those who are on tea ; PETERTHEROCK may be may be interested to check out on Carousell

Check him out on Carousell under Chinese tea (鸭屎香)

HAPPY DRINKING WHILE LISTENING!

I passed by this tea shop 白新春    that NUT had recommended among several others in his earlier post.

I aksed the lady if they do sell DanCong tea and she produced a small handy packet and told me it is named 柿 花 Dancong and also from ChaoZhou.

Looked good to me for a try. Was told the content is 50 gm ; asked her the price she quoted $49.80 !

I had a shock. But after a moment of calm, realised that if 2.5gm of tea leaves is required for each brew it cost only $2.49 so much cheaper than a Ventu of Starbucks Special brew.

On balance it is not costly at all aand is worth venturing to try different variety of teas that are on the market of those who are on to eat.

BTW I have not embarked on  the Duck Shit鸭 屎 tea I bought recently as I auto brew the other 3 types of tea that I currently have.

Hope brothers here and take an interest in tea drinking which is good for health.

Wishing all a Healthy and Happy OX year FOR A BETTER TOMORROW !

The following 2 Donting Oolong tea from Taiwan province are soothing and easily acceptable to the palate of most people given by Taiwan friends.

I do not understand Chinese much.

Wonder if anyone in this forum is able to connect with the producer/retailer as I am interested in buying especially the type in green tin which I believe is produced by the Lugu Tea association.

Would appreciate any information leading to communication by email or telephone.

Thank you.

Just tried 4 grams of this Chinese tea (鸭屎香).

Verict "甘"  and it lingers on your palate after you have finished drinking it.

Very good tea I must add.

Used to drink a Feng Huang DangCong from a shop is located in Joo Chiat which used to bring it in and available  at some shop like the Emporium in Peoples' Park Complex. It can in a red tin of 125 gm retailing for $35 last I saw it.

This is superior and comparatively cheaper with thei price on promotion.

Maybe PeterTheRock should take a closer look and all other hifi enthusiasts who has a taste for tea may consider this additional option and support local private business.

I have nothing to do with this Seller on Carousell.

I have communicated with him since early last year making e nquiry to understand better its product but did not buy any until about 2 weeks ago. (Used to Taiwan DongToing Oolong Cha in a green tin.)

His source his his relative who has his own plantation on Phoenix Hill in ChaoZhou.

Recently able to check some Taiwan website selling Oolong Dongting Cha. Pricing comparatively Taiwan is definitely higher. Their medium grade starts at US$7/ per 20 gram. On a comparative basis this ChaoZhou premium Chinese tea (鸭屎香) which is also a Oolong Cha is definitely superior.

Just sharing with those who appreciate the better things in Life as those on this forum by and large are.

Cheers !

A pic of the brew. Forgot to take a pic of the brewed tea in a cup.

The 4 grams of tea on the left make 4 tea cups; shown on the 2nd pic, of tea drink.

This effort is not about promoting any particular tea but rather an interest of tea drinking .

Some folks here may be in kungfu tea using Yixing Zhisha teapot and small tiny cups. I have tried that before and may return to it. Its about being in the mood.
