yuvi_uv Posted April 1, 2020 Posted April 1, 2020 After many years I want to simplify my set-up and looking at cutting down components and cables. I have tried Dynaudio Xeo (old model) and Kef LS50 (not my preference). Anyone with experience with Elac Navis ARB-51? I listen to a large range of music from jazz to reggae so need a good bass response. Currently have an ATC amp and ATC speakers. Any real world experience with actives appreciated.
Guest Posted April 1, 2020 Posted April 1, 2020 Why not ATC actives since you already know the brand. Any of the ATC actives have a much better reputation than the ones you've listed.
yuvi_uv Posted April 1, 2020 Author Posted April 1, 2020 Simply budget! ATC actives are a lot more $$ than the ones I listed or even ATC separates.
Gchord Posted April 1, 2020 Posted April 1, 2020 Hi buchardt audio is launching their active version .Take a look at it.I have their passive s400 speakers and its fantastic
Doggie Howser Posted April 2, 2020 Posted April 2, 2020 Don't forget that active speakers tend to have very low input impedance - so don't expect it to work well with a lot of tube preamps/sources
wizardofoz Posted April 2, 2020 Posted April 2, 2020 ATC combo is pretty good and gonna be hard to beat at a reasonable price point which you dont give budget so who knows what to suggest. Im using an old (repaired myself) pair of Active Studio monitors from last century - Quested VS2205 and they can really kick a$$ but for fuller bass a sub would be ideal
danishchelsea1624706345 Posted April 2, 2020 Posted April 2, 2020 I also vote for Buchardt since you say need bass. Sent from my SM-G975F using Tapatalk
yuvi_uv Posted April 2, 2020 Author Posted April 2, 2020 Thanks for all the suggestions. Unfortunately I am willing to give up some of the ATC sound for less equipment / more space. I have the scm11 v2 and without a sub find the bass a little tame! I sold off my sub which really made the sound whole. I have read Buchardt need to be played loud to get the best out of them. Is this true for the Buchardt users?
Guest threepoint8 Posted April 3, 2020 Posted April 3, 2020 Quested active is well known, for lower profile can check out the S7R or S8R. Adam S2V or S3V will be great choice too. For lower budget can consider PreSonus Sceptre S8. ATC combo is pretty good and gonna be hard to beat at a reasonable price point which you dont give budget so who knows what to suggest.
