Ignorant guy. Hainanese chicken rice has nothing to do with prc.

I am Hainanese and have tried the Wenchang chicken in Hainan.

The Singapore version is better (my opinion of cos).

Hainanese Chicken rice originated here in Sg by Hainanese back in the 50s or even earlier, So it has nothing to do with prc. We should submit chicken rice to UNESCO as sg cultural heritage.

I am Hainanese as well. My great-grandfather is from Wenchang. All I can say is you CANNOT compare both Wenchang and Singapore versions of chicken rice. Each has its plus and minuses.

First of all, the chickens used are very different. Wenchang chicken is free-range... Singapore mainly use farmed chicken. This will affect the taste and texture of the chicken. Secondly, Singapore chicken rice is usually served boneless. Wenchang chicken MUST come with bones (meat on bones taste sweeter). Thirdly, preparation is different. Singapore chicken is bath in cold/ice water. Wenchang chicken doesn't. Finally, the condiments and sauces are different.

Whenever I visit Wenchang, I will definitely eat their chicken rice. No one is better than the other. Both are very different!

As far as I'm concerned, SG chicken rice is quite unique. The original idea is from WenChang but we have developed it so far along. So do I have urge to to go Hainan and try theirs? Nah no thanks, prefer our SG version

Wenchang is no chicken rice. Hainanese chicken rice was created here and that idiot angmoh claiming it to be from prc. Wtf he is completely ignorant. Just like our famous Indian fish head curry also created by our fellow Indians.

Shhh. Better don’t say things like Sg has our own cuisine unique to us or anything along those lines. Wait Ppl from across causeway will tu lan and say we steal their things. Esp those from Penang as they seem to think we can’t even boil rice and have to steal everything that’s good about our cuisine ... from all around.

To deny that is just being stupid. Who cares what they say? Most importantly we shouldn't let our diverse food culture being replaced by the PRC rubbish mala hot pot, haidilao

Back to chicken rice, which you feel is more important to the overall enjoyment of it? Chicken or the rice?

rice, chicken, chili, ginger and soup. the complete package

The best chicken rice, imho

- Chicken from Yetcon (not sure if still around. Pure chicken taste, not for people who like their chicken drenched in sesame oil and light soy sauce)

- Rice from Heng Ji (Chinatown)

- Chilli from BTK/Chin Chin/Tian Tian/...

- Ginger paste from Soup Restaurant

- Dark Soy Sauce from Tiger Top Quality (NTUC, SS, ...)

chicken -> chilli + ginger -> rice

in that order

thinking of it makes me hungry [emoji39]

This means chicken dip in chilli + ginger, then put in rice to eat?  ;D
