For Melburnians - if you need coffee for xmas...

Featured Replies

St Ali (www.stali.com.au) in South Melbourne have got some batches of Cup of Excellence coffees that they are hoping will be ready this week.

I'd like to encourage any coffee buying Melburnians to support the CoE programme: coffee farmers submit their best coffees for auction, and these end up with a substantial premium price paid direct to the farmer. Basically, the scheme is designed to offer high prices for quality coffee direct to farmers as opposed to the price floor of Fairtrade for commodity coffee.

So you get one of the best coffees in the world and support local farmers.

No, it's sent by post from ordering online, just wasn't sure how worthwhile it would be outside Melb CBD.

Just go to the website - it's a pain to park there so I get it posted anyway.

Cup of Excellence stuff is listed as 'arriving this week', they are usually good at keeping the website up to date as their coffees change regularly.

Thanks for the post ,it will be handy on nightshift.

Cheers.

I am looking into improving my coffee making and will probably buy a grinder soon. Is this place above (www.stali.com.au) one of the better places to buy beens from? Where else is a good place that roast the beans so you know it is fresh?

Thanks.

And have a read through the articles section of the above site some great reviews with pictures

There is a small coffee shop in Whitehorse rd balwyn near the pedestrian lights

George has a coffee roasting machine behind the counter , He likes his coffee fresh

When I travel near by I sometimes call in for a coffee and some beans , Occasionally I have arrived

just after a fresh batch has been roasted .

The coffee that I have bought from Alan at Coffee for Connoisseurs has always been very fresh

And for first time purchasers he will supply free a 200g bag of Alans Blend with Your first order

The top few roasters in Melbourne at the moment are probably St Ali, Alan Frew (coffeeco.com.au), Veneziano, Five Senses and (on a good day) Eureka.

Mr_G, depends where you live as to who is 'best'. Although St Ali and Coffeeco are fantastic, I often end up buying Crivelli Black Gold as I live 300m from them.

I've been meaning to try some of the coffee from coffeeco but was bamboozled by the choice. Does anyone have any recommendations?

How do you drink your coffee, and what do you make it with?

I'm still new to the world of coffee making. I've got one of sunbeams cafe series expresso machines, it came free with the Fisher & Paykel fridge we just bought. I suppose it's only a cheapy but still makes a coffee that beats a lot of the dodgey brews I've had served up to me from some Cafes.

I usually just go for the flat white or the occasional Cappucino.

Cheers

Not to take away from Mr Gimlets topic but I find these guys Beraldo in Northcote very good.

They have a really nice blend for Espresso. :)

I like Ciscos in Windsor, I have been buying coffee there for many years. Good prices and the option of Fair Trade coffee too.

http://www.coffeeco.com.au/onestop.html , Alan at coffeeco I recommend talking too

I bought a Sylvia and a Rocky from him , When I went to pick them up

He fired up the Sylvia and tested it thoroughly before I left

Any gear he sells is selected for performance and price

If You look through the articles section on the web site , You will see his thoroughness

After looking at the above site, I am I correct in assuming he doesn't have a shop that I can just walk into and look around?

Thanks Mr G. I went there on the last Saturday they were open in 2007 and bought various small bags of coffee. Much appreciated for the heads-up as I didn't know they were there. Me and the missus might make a trek into to town this month to try out the rest of their fine fare (well, it looked good and there was a queue out the door into the heavy rain).
