richardyc,  I am interested to get a pair of SCS4 for my surrounds, can i know how to shipped it over direct from Thiel?

I could only use Vpost and probably they will charge me an arm and a leg, and if you are in Singapore, are there better ways to ship such heavy speakers into Singapore.  (Are you Singaporean or Singapore PR by the way?)

Thanks in advance for your tips.

What amps are you using to drive your new SCS4, btw?

I am in the US, so I have no idea how to ship it to Singapore. The speaker isn't that heavy, "only" 27lbs shipped, with the speaker being 25lbs.

I am only using the internal amp in my Onkyo TX-NR5007 receiver, I will eventually replace my L+R ch amps (currently using 2 Parasound mono amp 1201A, they actually don't sound too bad with the CS2.4s, just don't have much bass) with some high-current or Class D amps, just not sure yet. I will probably use the 1201A to drive the SCS4.

Thank richardyc for your reply.  I started out with the 2.4 being driven with my Sony TADA-9000ES.  The delivery person for my Thiel 3.7 complained that I was not getting the best from my speakers and suggested for me to go to the Thiel dealer to loan some Bel Canto power amps to try.  I have not returned the amps since.  :) .  I think you will be fine with the Parasound.

Delivery Person??!!  >:(

Yes, delivery person!!  No respect for him because I always hate this bugger who opened the floodgate of all my past few years' purchases.

chewed, delivery person....the other delivery person kept quiet and remain neutral....this bugger come up and speak out loud, criticise and spitted at my sound and thinks he can get away with it.................. but he told the unbearable truth.

But seriously, he has made me a happier person.....thank you, DIY Straits....Hey, I am always grateful!!

Sometimes I am thankful for these work trips. Came back at around 2am last night so took half day to recuperate. Which is really another way of saying listening to my setup at high volumes during the day without the missus complaining. :)

I bought a couple of XRCD2s before I left but didn't have time to listen to them, only ripped them to my iPods so have been listening to them while I am on the road.

In the past, I usually hear more details with the headfi but now the situation seems to be reversed. I was listening to this Olivia bonus track and it never occurred to me that there were other singers on the track. But that was now very apparent when I was listening to the Thiels and I had to double confirm with the CD liner.

While I am still haunted by the DAC3.5 from last week, I think the Pre3 preamp stage is definitely working very well in combination with the modded Marantz. Can't wait to get the 3.7s in and see how they stack up.

Hi all, am thinking of setting a 2 channel system for myself. will like to have a listening session with your set up to get to know more about this hobby and of course know more people who are into this as well. If anyone's place is open, I will be delighted to have a listen at your audio set up. Will bring kopi :) thanks

I would recommend getting a DAC instead of a pre-amp if you just want a Mac Mini to be your source.  Money used for buying a good pre-amp is enough to buy you a very good DAC with volume control and take off one component from your signal trail.

Chewed, thanks for the suggestion. I have been to Sound Decisions and must say that I liked the Thiels sound. Want to have some experience listening to audio in a home environment, taking room constrains, speaker placement into account.

Francis, thanks for the offer. Sent you a pm.

Have thought of that, i think in long term a dedicated pre is the way to go, as i was also thinking of getting theatre by-pass and may add another source.

Upgrade slowly :)

The DAC3 has one analog input which can also double as HT bypass.

For a start, you can use the DAC3 as a Pre first. Then add a pre-amp later on. The DAC3 pre amp output is very very good, and since your source is a Mac Mini for now.. it might be a better option (get the USB Link.. Audio says it's as good as the CD2 as a transport!)
