Yep.. projector-less now.  :(

Who knows.. I may follow Pete's footsteps by abandoning the use of PJ and mount a Kuro plasma in my HT room. This will give me space to setup a pair of MA GS20. Just some possibilities I'm toying..

Huh!!! :-[

You can go back to a small screen? I don't think I can anymore man!

Hi guys,

Picked up my HC5000 last nite :)

Hey I read in the manual that says:

When the projector is mounted on the ceiling,

images may appear darker than those projected in

the case of tabletop mounting. This isn’t a product

malfunction.

Huh? Why would this be so? Anyone?

Cheers!

I think it refers to mounting upside down.

If you use lens shift and place it right side up, shd not be an issue. Maybe it has to do with the processing to flip the image over when mounted upside down.

Was setting up my HC5000 last night and discovered a little problem.

When I used the cross hatch pattern to focus the pj, I realized that when the left top corner was crystal clear, the bottom right hand corner was slightly blur and out of focus. If I adjusted for the bottom right hand corner the top left corner then became slightly blur. I was looking at the vertical line sharpness and 1 side's sharpness is at the expense of the other side. This is especially apparent when I changed the menu position from the top left hand corner to the bottom right hand corner and vice versa to check focus.

Can anyone confirm if they have the same problem?

I initially thought that I might not have mounted the pj squarely perpendicular to the screen so I re-checked it and reset all lens shift to centre. I adjusted the physical tilt angle of the pj to make sure there are no 'keystone' effect (top being wider than bottom or vice versa). Its factory default lens shift centre height position is about half a screen higher than my screen so I lens-shifted it vertically down by half a screen to fit the screen. Would it have caused the focus issue? My pj is mounted upside down on a ceiling bracket.

Cheers!

Sometimes its the screen placement that is causing the uniformity problem. I suspect that one side of the screen is slightly receded towards the rear. Not so much on the Projector focus. An easy way to test the focus uniformity is to use a simple white of paper and place it just 1 metre or more away from the projector len and display an image to look out for any uniformaity problem (if any).

Chromatic abberation in lens and hotspot are just some of the nitty problems tied with short-throw projector.

I think they are talking about some form of light 'leakage' at the bottom of the Projector. If ceiling-mount (placed upside down) - it will minimize the leakage and make movie viewing less distracting.

Hi,

This is a heads-up for those with local HC5000 sets and suffering from dust blob issue.

It seems that version 4.0 firmware is not good enough to prevent dust blobs, at least for my case. I have just sent in my set to Mits Service Centre for a replacement of LCD block and to install a new high-density filter block over the air vent area. These are hardware changes and FOC obviously.

I also understand from the Mits folks that the coming HC6000 will have this enhancement (high density filter) on top of many other new features.

Good news for those who wish to buy the HC5000 now. The current batch comes with the (high density filter to prevent dust blob) and firmware 4.0. Price has dropped to around 4.6k.
