LiquidShaDow Posted February 26, 2003 Posted February 26, 2003 Dimension Films is currently locking down talent for their "other" werewolf film, an adaptation of Marvel Comics' "Werewolf by Night." They just hired Oscar-nominated (gosh, it's good to throw around an achievement like that, huh?) screenwriter Robert Nelson Jacobs (who penned "Chocolat" - a crowd pleaser, and "The Shipping News" - what?!) to chronicle the life of a poor sap aflicted by lycanthropy. Wait a minute...what happend to Has Rodionoff ("Tortured Souls")?! Wasn't he attached to script this project? While you simmer on this news, the Corner will look into this. In the meantime, more on Jacobs... Avi Arad, the head honcho at Marvel Studios who is most likely grinning ear-to-ear after the success of "Spider-man" and "Daredevil", seems to be pleased with the Weinstein's decision to bring Jacobs aboard. Here's a quote from Variety... "It is our aim to bring the werewolf genre to mainstream audiences in the same character-driven way we have done with our other superhero films," said Arad. " 'Werewolf by Night' is at its core a beautiful love story reminiscent of the great Shakespearean tragedies. It needs the meticulous heartfelt crafting that Robert Nelson Jacobs is known for." A melodramatic werewolf thriller with Shakespearean overtones? Guys, just deliver a frightening tale, not something you hope the Academy voters will remember come Oscar season. Nevertheless, it's good to know they're trying...after all, they could hire Joel Soisson ("Dracula 2000"). http://www.creature-corner.com/news3/feb25werewolf.php3
