Wolf1624705742 Posted September 17, 2002 Posted September 17, 2002 Am very much decided on brand (Marantz) but still undecided on either SR6200 or SR7200. Anyway, I would like to know your recommendations for speakers to match this receiver. Have auditioned Mission 780 and liked the sound but I feel it lacks power. Meaning when I turn the volume close to half, the sound coming out is already different. Can anyone recommend me better speakers for the same price range 600SGD. Thanks,
Jag Posted September 17, 2002 Posted September 17, 2002 If u really like marantz, then go for the best you can afford. If u buy 6200, you'll always have a nagging feeling "should have bought the 7200" when things don't go right. The idea is to buy as much power as you can....of the same brand of course....
Phil1624705739 Posted September 17, 2002 Posted September 17, 2002 Go & audit together /w e amp.. At $600 for a pair of bookshelfs.. u got quite a wide variety available. Phil
Norman_Chan Posted September 17, 2002 Posted September 17, 2002 Marantz HT AV Amp. is very good but the appearance look very "rough" workmanship .... just my 2 cent.
Guest jonlee Posted September 17, 2002 Posted September 17, 2002 Why not floorstanders since u are looking for HT, unless u are into serious stero also. Can try the mission M73 or M74.
Jag Posted September 17, 2002 Posted September 17, 2002 floorstanders actually give more headache to calibrate bass response, but when tweaked, its oozes authority in its bass, mid-range and treble fluidity. Try not to limit to just within mission, there are others out there that may be a more better match to your ears and the amp.
Wolf1624705742 Posted September 17, 2002 Author Posted September 17, 2002 Thanks for all the response. I am planning on using bookshelf speakers as main initially. This is because wife not approve of budget. When she finally agree, am planning on moving the speakers to surround and get floorstanders as main. But that is another issue, as for now my main concern is to get best bookshelf at this price range. I was at Klas audio last Sunday and saw/heard dynaudio (don't know which model) and the music was great (a lot better than mission 780 on music). Anyone suggest if these are within by range and which model to audition?

Do not allow yourself to be overawed by the music you heard the other day. It is probably paired with a Stereo amp, not an AV RECEIVER. Things will be different with a receiver playback on music. If you can, get an audition with the amp you decided on and the relevant speakers. If I remember correctly, the specs on the catalog that Marantz has given me, the SR6200 & 7200 are same power BUT the 7200 has multi room capability.

Wolf1624705742 Posted September 20, 2002 Author Posted September 20, 2002 OH I see... With the sound I heard, the speakers must really be that expensive. Fowler, you are correct. there seems to be no receiver running when I heard the sound. Well, can anyone recommend specific speakers I can audition for that price range? I will initially have 2 speakers (so mostly music) but eventually buy centre, surround and sub. It will be 80% music but when I finally complete the setup, it'll be 40% Music and 60% HT. Please recommend so I can start my hunt. Thanks.
