shotokan Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 For those who follow 6moons- not the listening room I expected. http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue28/cad45se.htm
Guest Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Di you see Ken Kessler's tiny room in a recent Hi-Fi News ?
Guest Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I think Art Dudley may have two, or possibly three, rooms set up with hi-fi gear for review purposes. Last I heard about Kessler, he had a purpose built listening room in the back yard.
shotokan Posted May 11, 2011 Author Posted May 11, 2011 I see Perreaux get a mention in that edition?
Guest Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 No Perreaux in the current (March) issue, maybe the next one, which promises coverage of THE show from CES 2011. Interestingly, KK's room is approx. 3.68m x 5.5m, mine is 4.68m x 5.5m. He has a LOT more toys though.

shotokan Posted May 11, 2011 Author Posted May 11, 2011 4.5 x 5.5 plus window seat - just to enough to mess with the acoustics. I find it quite a comfortable size for not so loud listening.

Funny that most of these reviewers don't seem to go in for room treatments - or even curtains!
AudioKiwi Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Actually this has made me think about reviewing in general - I mean KK's room seems less than optimal, he has thousands of dollars worth of kit in there and most of it between the speakers (how does he get any soundstage at all?). Art Dudley's seems full of reflective surfaces and Srajan Ebaen's (Six Moons also) seems to be in an annex off the kitchen I guess these are "real world" environments but hardly seem the best for evaluating hundreds of thousands of dollars of kit?

Wow. Some of those listening room photos are indeed scary and I have to ponder what some esteemed reviewers are primarily listening to - the equipment or the room? In my years in this hobby, I've come to believe the speaker/room interface is one of the most important elements we face in building a satisfying audio system. It might be a little harsh but I do think that a room full of audio equipment without any meaningful consideration for acoustic controls leads to a conclusion that this hobby is not about "sound quality" but "gear collection."
