Since you asked.....

I have the Silver Starlight which is great however I have gone optical with a Chord which is even better. So I have a coax sitting spare myself!

I'd only try this upgrade if we were talking $250 (cash, I'm in CHCH).

Bit cheeky of me I know but....

Bit too cheeky ;).

Feel free to try the Gold, I also tried the silver and wasn't too fussed.

I am interested in this optical you speak of, I'm in the market for one, can you give me some details.

I may go for a swap plus cash (my turn to be cheeky!).

I'm using an OptiChord from Chord.

$125.00 from Pure HiFi.

I could see your cable as coming in handy in the future (Bluray to DAC for when I eventually get a BR) but I just coughed up for a news mains cable! Bad timing....

I assume this is running between MBP and Benchmark Dac-1 HDR. Does the OptiChord have mini-Toslink at one end?

Also, where did you buy the Benchmark Dac-1 HDR and how much did it cost?

George, I use USB from the MBook to DAC. This is a nicer sound than optical.

I use the Optichord for CD to DAC.

Lew Wells imports the Benchmarks.

Cost; not cheap. In rough terms you are looking at $3k.

Many comment the Benchmark is sterile and dry. This may be the case (system dependancy, cables used and all that) but in my system it sounds awesome and it is a step up from the valve output of my Musical Fidelity CDP.

I have all my digital sources plus one analog running through it; it's a super versatile box and I wouldn't be without it. The HDR is my second Benchmark DAC. I bought for both the remote option and USB hook up.
