About 75 KG on the top rack so made very strong with laminated 18mm Russian birch ply and domino joints holding it all together . While your suggestion for bolt-spikes is valid, I don't think that bolts ground to a point and pennies as protectors matches my design. Plus once the stand is assembled there wouldn't be anything to attach the bolts to. Here's the design drawing from my first post: Now I understand. Your spike idea got me thinking, I could make some 2" (51mm) spikes for my uprights and receiver disks for the shelf tops, then stack the shelves without bolts. Here is another pic of the day I'm not that good when it comes to finishing job. Would like to maintain the two colour tone. The legs & bracings need to be given a light colour stain (Oak or Walnut). Just applied Mahogany stain on shelves and one coat of satin wood polish. Do you do sanding using light grain paper/0000 steel o wool between each coat? FrostEOne Posted October 17, 2018 Share Posted October 17, 2018 I really like that mahogany stain. I have tried steel wool & scotch-brite, but sanding does the best for me. Keeps the work flatter and ensures the high spots are knocked off. In my case, we're looking at around 20 thin coats of spar varnish thinned 50/50 with mineral spirits. Covered the joint area of legs with masking tape. Still its a tuff job from preventing it from being absorbed by the legs. Thinking about adding a cap slowly...brass or tan leather with black thread stiching. Did'nt complete the finishing process but helping someone I know in Australian HiFi and AV show 2018, Melbourne. I'm also an old school guy, using McIntosh 240 & Tannoy Arden as my main system. Those speakers in photo are Aries Cerat Symphonia Limited Edition speakers which is exhibited in Austrian HiFi and AV show 2018, Melbourne.
