Built a few years ago now but still serving me well.

About 75 KG on the top rack so made very strong with laminated 18mm Russian birch ply and domino joints holding it all together .

Lots of ventilation for all the tubes......

Thank you for the compliment.

While your suggestion for bolt-spikes is valid, I don't think that bolts ground to a point and pennies as protectors matches my design. Plus once the stand is assembled there wouldn't be anything to attach the bolts to. Here's the design drawing from my first post:

Now I understand. My idea would only work if you were making the shelves to sit on top if another shelf.

Here's a couple finished pics at a different angle, pretty close to glass smooth,  Quite happy with how these came out, going to allow them to dry a couple more days before turning them over to do top sides.

Thank you for the compliment HiFi-Man, what you see there is the result of 3 weeks work, 19 thin coats of Epifanes varnish lightly sanded with 400 grit between each coat.

Found out something new to me today and I am totally impressed!
Noticed back when looking for 00 and 0000 steel wool local availability, that Lowes lists Scotch-Brite as steel wool.
Been thinking about that in the back of my mind since, so today I tried a piece of brown Scotch-Brite (comparable to 00 steel wool) under my sanding block.
Using it under the sanding block kept it flat, achieving way more surface contact.
Works faster than steel wool and keeps the surface much flatter as well.
Going to put the 14th coat of varnish on now, pics late today or first thing tomorrow.

Update - Using steel wool or scotch-brite for this wasn't the way to go, left too many imperfections. Sanding with a block between each coat keeps the work much flatter and guarantees the high spots are removed.

Your spike idea got me thinking, I could make some 2" (51mm) spikes for my uprights and receiver disks for the shelf tops, then stack the shelves without bolts.

I think that could be an interesting concept!  Now need to locate some solid stainless big enough.

Yes, we got a really nice weather here...slowly switching to summer.

Here is another pic of the day :)

I'm not that good when it comes to finishing job. Would like to maintain the two colour tone. The legs & bracings need to be given a light colour stain (Oak or Walnut). Just applied Mahogany stain on shelves and one coat of satin wood polish.

Do you do sanding using light grain paper/0000 steel o wool between each coat?

I really like that mahogany stain.  I have tried steel wool & scotch-brite, but sanding does the best for me. Keeps the work flatter and ensures the high spots are knocked off. In my case, we're looking at around 20 thin coats of spar varnish thinned 50/50 with mineral spirits. I wipe it on with a lint free cotton rag, very thin coats.

When you do a 2 color setup...how do you stop the stain from bleeding?

I think you'll struggle to avoid the strain bleeding into the pine as it's very soft and porous. You be better to disassemble first.

That's what I was thinking too, but it looked like it was assembled permanently already.

Covered the joint area of legs with masking tape. Still its a tuff job from preventing it from being absorbed by the legs.

Applied the stain on shelves (Karri wood panel) step by step, each very light coat with extra care.

Its already assembled permanently. I think the best way was to apply stain on legs first, polish it and then apply stain on shelves. but its already late now. Or applying stain before assembling them together. I'm a beginner and learning lessons from mistakes :)

Thank You all for pointing these and let me learn more :)

That is classy HiFi-Man, looks real good!  The oak supports and pine uprights match quite well. My only critique is I would have made the top cap the uprights, but that's a personal preference.

Thanks, that's a good suggestion. Thinking about adding a cap slowly...brass or tan leather with black thread stiching.

Did'nt complete the finishing process but helping someone I know in Australian HiFi and AV show 2018, Melbourne. Aries Cerat units on the Rack :)

In last photo, total 170kgs on the rack.

Looks real fine sitting there with equipment on it!  Leather would be interesting, lot one could do with leather, but not sure I'd cover that nice wood though..

I'm pretty much "old school" still run the Yamaha NS1000M I bought in 1975.  What is that speaker to the left of your rack?

Won't be covering the entire legs with leather or a brass cap on top as you suggested is a good option too.

I'm also an old school guy, using McIntosh 240 & Tannoy Arden as my main system.

Those speakers in photo are Aries Cerat Symphonia Limited Edition speakers which is exhibited in Austrian HiFi and AV show 2018, Melbourne.
