Briz Vegas Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 (edited) I was once excited by HD and multi channel recordings and such. Not so much now. My best format is probably anything ripped vis 2 channel. It has the best signal path to my speakers by far. Blue ray would have to go via less quality gear. I have Vivid B1 s up front and B&W804s at the back so multi channel is not bad but 2 channel is more seamless and is a superior source. The B1s have a far superior signal path. Dolby ATMOS at home would therefore be quite condensed relative to the full multi channel experience envisaged. I wonder who has that number of quality channels. That being said, I easily prefer my home theatre to any cinema in Brisbane. Maybe 4.1 isn’t so bad in a smallish room. Edited October 9, 2017 by Briz Vegas
HomerJ Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 I've got B&W 802D fronts, 804D rears, DB1 and ASW825 subs, HTMD2 centre and Focal SR1000BE surrounds (all in 7.2 configuration). I originally had 5.1 driven my a McIntosh 6 channel amp, then a Arcam AVR600, now a Denon X7200WA. I much prefer to listen to a good multichannel mix than stereo. Some of the more recent Blu-ray Audio releases (I have over 50) are just incredible to listen to. Also some great quad re-released on blu-ray audio (Chicago and The Doors). My latest blu-ray arrival: The Pineapple Thief - Where We Stood contains a live concert (15 songs in 96/24 surround with two mixes: Immersive and Discrete) plus 3 audio only albums in 96/24 surround all for about $25. Highly Recommended. (ex Porcupine Tree drummer Gavin Harrison plays throughout). BTW: INXS - Kick Atmos blu-ray is now available from Amazon UK for about $44 incl. shipping.
HomerJ Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 R.E.M. - Automatic for the People is also coming in a special Atmos mix soon 1
HomerJ Posted November 3, 2017 Posted November 3, 2017 (edited) I saw my first many review of INXS - Kick BDA in surround and this sounds like it's going to be a beauty! Should see more over next day or two now that it's out on UZk and Oz. (Mine coming from Amazon UK, should arrive in about 10 days...)
