Hello. Looking for a new receiver. So far decided that I don't wnat to do the home theatre thing, it doesn't need to play my TV. TV will be standalone and separate. So looking for a stereo receiver thingy.

I already have two good speakers, and want to be able to:

1. play FM radio

2. play CDs

3. play and record digital radio too.

What do I need to get? I have been looking at the Sherwood Cambridge Receiver and CD player. Its probably a bit higher kwality than what my ears require. But i also want to do the digital radio things.

Can anyone please recommend some component combos that will achieve the above.

Budget around $1500 or under.

My old Marantz Tuner passed away recently. I figured it was an opportunity to look at a replacement that supported DAB+. The only FM/DAB+ (affordable) tuners I found that looked like hifi components were the Cambridge and a Sangean. I'm in an area not well serviced by digital radio anyway at present, so in the end I put the whole thing on hold and replaced the my old Tuner/Integrated Amp combo with a very nice secondhand Yamaha RX-596, with a view to re-assessing the situation when Gembrook has DAB+ reception!

If you're keen on the digital radio, with your budget I would blow half of it on the Cambridge 650T Tuner ($599 - $699), which I expect would be a good long-term investment, and use the rest to get the best new/used CD Player and Integrated Amp that $800 to $900 can buy you.

Good luck.
