astroguy Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 (edited) I am a newbee that has moved into a home with a home theater system. I am setting up a Blu Ray Player to work with the projector. The cabling is already built in and I am just figuring out what goes where. I can get a picture ok, but no audio. There are no audio cables that I can see, but I found this mini mono sound plug in the cabinet (see pic.) Would this be an audio transmitter? Thanks for looking, Bob Edited October 27, 2016 by astroguy Addition
rapturedigital Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 (edited) More Info needed about other equipment than the projector - speakers, AV Receiver, etc - photo of system, room?? Not sure what is pictured. Edited October 27, 2016 by rapturedigital
astroguy Posted October 27, 2016 Author Posted October 27, 2016 After more digging around behind the cupboard, I found the speaker cables, which have been cut. I will be able to connect them to the Blu Ray with a couple of rca terminal adapters. Problem solved.
DoggieHowser Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 This sounds like a recipe for disaster. A Bluray player has line level outputs - about 1.5-3V low current. Your speakers are expecting a different type of signals - unless they are active speakers (i.e. with internal amps - and would normally have their own power cords). You don't just terminate speaker connections to RCAs. Unless you have one of those Home Theatre in a Box systems which often use color coded plugs to make it easier to connect (HT for dummies).
Mikeyday Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 Well you've made it this far, as to post a question. Some of us can see a potential problem here; I think that it would be advantageous at this point to list off what you have in the room already and what you propose to add of your equipment. A few of us here can help with advise but we need makes and models of speakers, and AV equipment to make an educated assessment of advice to provide.
arrow224 Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 (edited) That cable you have is for an InfraRed extender. You would need another device to plug this in to.
