G'day

Forgive me this if it's a stupid question, but I've just spent 3 hours setting up a spider rack and there is no way known I can get most of my gear on its own feet. Is it intended that with these racks the gear sits supported on the plastic "risers" that come with the rack instead of their own feet or am I doing something wrong?

I've got some Rega gear on my spider rack using the feet sitting direcly on the wood rails..

I feel you need platforms under your components. Isolation cones under components on decent timber, granite or other proven isolation slabs.

I don't know these racks, but the timber struts don't look all that solid to me and don't allow much room room for safety if a component is bumped.

Just my 2c.

Is that a Little Dot DAC1 on top?

Yes mate, Little Dot DAC1. Vast improvemnet over the letting the Apple TV do the DAC.

Definitely not due to stabliity. Those power amps weigh 40kg each or thereabout and none of the gear is going to move. I've tested pretty carefully, because I have a toddler.

FWIW I have my turntable, Shanling player and Peachtree Nova on the risers but my MF amp sitting on its base. I recently found that some of the risers I have have plastic shims which narrow the internal width and make them too small to fit on the wooden spiders.

Has anyone got (or is anyone aware of) something a bit more sophisitcated that the risers that come with it? eg, I've read good things about Ceraball.

I use granite on the risers and Solid Tec Feet of Silence under the SACD player which stops all vibration.

Cheers, as I'm about to drop a bucket load on a new preamp I think I'll try sorbothane for a while and move to something more sophisticated down the track.

Hi

From my experience Sorbothane just kills the life out of everything it is put under. Best isolation I have tried so far have been Silent Running platforms, Stillpoints and the Cereballs etc, but non of them are cheap.

Cheers

Cheers - I'm picking up some Cereballs tomorrow for the CD player. Sorbothane ordered from ebay - got a small boat load for only $90, so no great damage done if it's a dump. The Ceraballs are $400 for 4, so I'm hoping I can hear a difference!
