Bryce1963 Posted February 25, 2011 Author Posted February 25, 2011 Nice mate, seem to be good things said about the klipsch's on various sites. Very efficient too, so you won't need as much grunt fill that room. Look forward to those pics!!! cheers They are very efficient. I have had my current set now for approx 2 yrs and love them, hoping these complement them as well as i hope they will. disconnected aoll the lighting in readiness for the plasterer on Mon, too bloody dark now to play with the Panny. Offline tomorrow, looks like it Sun. Bugger !!!
Bryce1963 Posted February 26, 2011 Author Posted February 26, 2011 Have finally got an opportunity to mock up the screen (will post some shots today). I've decided to go with the Klipsch Ref 52's as per previous but this now means that as per Simon's (i think) comment re acoustically transparent screens that i have had to raise the height of the bottom of the screen by an additional 140mm. I was originally planning on running with the 130" scope screen with the bottom of the frame at 800mm from the floor. I now need to raise it to around 950mm or so due to the speaker heights. I could potentially place the speakers outside the screen but most opinion seems to state that they should be within the 1.78 dimensions. Hopefully the pics will help but would be interested in your thoughts, first row seating at 3.5m approx and second at around 5ish, projector (Panasonic AE4000U) at 14'7" throw Will the screen be too high from a viewing comfort perspective ? Seems ok from the mocked up seating position but until i get the chance to get the projector up and play around with it am not so sure. Power and plaster in tomorrow so that will help but would value your thoughts. Thanks guys Bryce

Thanks guys Bryce Bryce, I'm running my 130" scope screen so the bottom is ~870mm from the floor and sit just under 4m - this works fine, but is probably close to our comfort limit for prolonged viewing. I'd suggest you go with your 950mm height, but trial the front seats before you sort out floor coverings. If need be, you can get the builder to add in a riser for the first row of seats, and lift up the second row riser.

Thanks Quark, I was definitely going with a riser for the second row but hadn't considered it for the first. Makes good sense. I've managed to get a few pics of the mocked up screen, apologies for the poor lighting but am using portafloods as the old lighting came out on Fri in readiness for new lights. Have got all my cabling runs completed light, power and sound/HDMI. Hopefully these cover the scene adequately. Ceiling height is 2500. Cheers Bryce

Bryce1963 Posted February 27, 2011 Author Posted February 27, 2011 Looks good Bryce! Thanks Simon, I'm off on holidays from next weekend and cant believe i dont want to go. 3 weeks i could have played with the room and i wont be around, i am quickly understanding how these projects become an obsession. Even scarier is that i know sooner or later i'll catch the dreaded upgrade bug or want to keep adding to whatever i do in the room. Cheers Bryce

Bryce1963 Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 I know how you feel. Scary isnt it !! Even scarier when the bride finds out what this is really going to cost and i haven't mentioned recliners yet ! Plasterer and sparky back today, walls and ceiling done, cornices etc go in tomorrow and the window will also then be boarded up. Architrave came off it today. Have posted some pics, probably not great quality as i'm still on floodlights for illumination. Not sure if it looks like much has happened from the pics but in standing in the room it is really coming along, the droppers from the ceiling are all flush down lights dimmer controlled Just need to push the button on the flush mount for the projector now.
Bryce1963 Posted March 5, 2011 Author Posted March 5, 2011 Plastering, wiring and lighting all completed. Now that window is gone i'm seriously reconsidering my plan for the 130' scope screen, i think i may be able to get a 140 into the space i have. Time will tell once i get the projector mounted. Painting will now be next and Rich's update on the forum re the black paint was very timely as the front wall and ceiling will be black. Not too far to go to get it either. I have one brick column which you may be able to just see in some of the pics which will be cement rendered and then painted the same color as the rest of the walls. (I love the look of the burgundy but may have to flip a coin as a deep blue also looks good). Am off OS tonight for a couple of weeks so things will grind to a halt. A few days up my sleeve once i get back and will probably have a paint brush in my hand i think. Minister for War and Finance actually interested now and wanting to provide all sorts of input usually after a decision has been made or work completed. Hopefully her interest extends to lots of toys to fill it with... Cheers Bryce

I have a Klipsch 5.1 set up currently (quintets) I will be using these as surrounds and am adding a pair of Reference series fronts and a matching centre channel. I have data in the room as well which will be relocated to the current points and plugs so that i can add a computer / media centre for streaming etc. I'm not the worlds greatest photographer as you can probably tell. Hopefully the pics tell the story adequately. More excited about the room than the trip, terrible isnt it... Talk soon. Bryce

Looking good Bryce.Hope you have/had a great o/s trip, and look forward to updates when you get back Thanks Woodlake, Jetlag has hit me and am up at some ungodly hour, cant sleep, thank god for the internet. Hoping to have a mount for the projector waiting for me when i get home so can start to determine screen size. Am thinking that 140" scope isnt out of the question. WIll have to get the paint brush out before i do much else though. All i have to decide is which color !! Decisions, decisions Catch up soon Cheers Bryce

Cheers, Simon Hi Simon, Am really torn at the moment, i love the look of a really deep burgundy, the ceiling and a portion of the side walls (within projector throw) will be black as will the front wall at least most of it anyway with maybe a litle color near the bottom but i'm reading that greys are recommended which does nothing for me to be honest. A very dark blue would also be nice but still leaning towards the burgundy. Any thoughts ?? Whatever i run with as far as a color goes will also be used in the bar area which makes up the other half of the room. (Will post some pics when i get back to give you a better idea of the whole space) I'm sure the bride will want her 2 bobs worth as well... Regards Bryce Edited March 10, 2011 by bruceyonthecoast

Bryce1963 Posted March 13, 2011 Author Posted March 13, 2011 Thanks for the links, have tried to access them from where i am but terribly slow connection, will have to wait till i'm back in Oz. Minister for War and Finance talking up the burgundy but i saw a very deep purple in an old theatre here in Italy which also looks great. Toughest part of the whole project as Simon has already said. Bryce Deep purple would look fantastic. I was originally looking for a purple, but didn't like the GOM colours that were available so went the next closest thing which was burgundy. I think a deep dark green could look pretty amazing as well. I've only seen one or two in my travels though. Cheers, Simon
Bryce1963 Posted March 15, 2011 Author Posted March 15, 2011 I have considered the green, i know what you mean and reckon the right shade of a deep green would be brilliant. M.F.W&F not too keen on it though and can't convince her otherwise. The bar which is part of the room has a deep red top and if i can find the right shade of purple then i could make it work but she is pretty keen on the burgundy. I may check out the company that do the black paint referred to in one of the threads and see if they have something that may do the trick... Think your burgundy looks fabulous Simon and am using your pics to show her what can be done. Now that we have finished the plastering she is telling me she wants a starlight ceiling. May be beyond my limited capability , we'll see. Regards Bryce Deep purple would look fantastic. Bryce1963 Posted April 2, 2011 Author Posted April 2, 2011 (edited) Finally back at home. It seems like forever since I've been here. Got back from OS and found the room full of water Plumber had relocated some pipework as part of the ceiling going in and as it turns out hadn't joined one of the pipes properly, that and a partially blocked down pipe left me with about 8l of water all over the floor. Never had issues in there before so my builder was able to pretty quickly identify the source of the problem. Plumber back in to fix and all good now. No damage done to the new plaster thankfully as i hadn't fixed skirting boards yet which allowed the water some egress rather then piling up in the wall cavity Spent Sat afternoon with the projector trying to determine final screen size. i have the space for a 140" scope screen and managed to fit the pic into the mocked up screen dimensions on the wall after playing around with throw distances a bit. No mount yet, set it up on top of an esky on an old fridge to get the mounting height pretty close and then fiddled from there with throw distance.I'm not sure i did it all correctly though as i had to fiddle quite a bit with the masking settings on the Panny to get it to fit. If i got the width right then i had to mask about 1/8th of the bottom to get it to fit. I utilised my PS3 as an input and ran a copy of Monsters Inc which I'm positive is shot in wide-screen but even with all of the masking settings at zero didn't see any letter boxing. Have i got something wrong here ? I'll try and get some screen shots up which may help. Got a little confused when initially switching it on as the image (Panasonic Logo) overlapped about 12" onto the ceiling, adjusted this with the vertical adjustment on the projector but this image was different dimensionally to the image i then saw once i kicked the PS3 into play. Which image do i use for establishing my throw distance ? I am hoping to be able to get the 140" screen in but will settle for the 130" if i have to. I had the lens set at full zoom which gave me the width i wanted but left the pic too long for me. If i reduced the zoom to fit the bottom borders then my width reduced way too much for my liking. The manual isn't overly helpful in getting these settings right so i fiddled until i got it to fit, picture quality was great from a brightness perspective as the room was nice and dark but i'm worried about losing a big chunk of my picture. Do i need to use the masking settings to get a result here or am i barking up the wrong tree (or wall) ? If i move the projector back too much further I'm going to have to run with my mount a lot further back than i originally planned which will mean my wiring and power in the ceiling are going to be further from the mount than i originally planned. I mounted a timber plate between the joists to giver me some wriggle room here but it is still forward of where i now think it should be. Can anybody point me in the right direction please ?? Thanks guys Bryce Edited April 2, 2011 by bruceyonthecoast
wilsact Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 (edited) Hi Bryce, I never got to try anything with setup on the panny, but checkout here and see if it helps: http://www.avforums.com/forums/projectors/...emory-lens.html I know there are a number of other panny pt-ae4000 owners on here, so hopefully they can assist some more. Bryce1963 Posted April 7, 2011 Author Posted April 7, 2011 Thanks Paul, I did trawl the forum looking for something as well as the net. Not critical just yet but i just wanted to confirm the screen size in order to take advantage of the screen sale that Richard currently has going at OZ Theatre. Will check this out and have a play around. Need to get the plaster primed and get the painting done before too much else. Am looking at the Rosco black for the front wall and ceiling as well as the front third of the side walls and then source the right shade of burgundy for the rest. Need to do a little rendering on the remaining exposed brick column in the room as well. Plenty to keep me busy, talk soon. Cheers Thanks again Hi Bryce,I never got to try anything with setup on the panny, but checkout here and see if it helps: http://www.avforums.com/forums/projectors/...emory-lens.html I know there are a number of other panny pt-ae4000 owners on here, so hopefully they can assist some more.
