Is there a requirement by the ACMA for techs who work on LPON broadcast equipment to have specific technical qualifications? And/or does someone have to certify that the facility meets the relevant technical standards for LPON stations?

Had a hunt around the ACMA website but couldn't find anything relating to this, just the info to licensees and the 1 watt not to exceed 48dBuv @ 2km stuff.

I don't think there's any requirement other than to not breach any license conditions.

A lot of the stations that do transmit with illegal power settings are tweaked by qualified techs anyway

Tech_head,

Email broadcasting@acma.gov.au and ask them. I would be interested in their answer.

Technical details for the licence, will be on the licence itself. Some

guidelines for prospective LPON licensees are available in the LPON

applicants package: http://www.acma.gov.au/WEB/STANDARD/pc=PC_310581.

There is no requirement for technical qualifications to operate a

broadcast station, but presumably they have had technical supervision

while installing and setting it up, and by whomever maintains the

equipment.

G'day,

Maybe the techs are reading this, but this may be a long shot

The 88.0 licence for Yarra Glen, playing Faith FM (Christian) seems a tad bit overpowered, or maybe their coverage area was meant to hit Lilydale, Chirnside Park, almost Croydon as well

Anyone else found this?

My impression from reading the LPON applicants package is that in built up areas the coverage isn't supposed to be much more than 2km from the site. You can check the ACMA database and see what their licence says.
