MickB...... Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 I was just looking on the Topfield site to see if there was a firmware update for the 7100, and noticed a new PVR. Topfield 7100 HD Plus It appear sto be an update on the 7100 with Mpeg 4 capable tuners, TAP support and a few other updates and additions. I also noticed the wireless dongle is now an optional extra. Anyone seen these around yet? A Google search does not turn up anything.
arc888 Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 (edited) They also have a new TRF2460 Masterpiece HD Plus too - I'd be spewing if I'd just bought the 2400 ;-) Edited November 18, 2009 by arc888

diesel Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 So the only difference between the 2400 and the 2400+ is 1TB HDD?
ClownDog Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 So the only difference between the 2400 and the 2400+ is 1TB HDD? Also 128x FF/RW instead of 64x, and inclusion of wireless support through a dongle that seems to be also available for the 2400 in Jan 2010. If only it had PiP then it would be the perfect machine for me.
MickB...... I think a 2460 would be a good xmas present. Though I have the 7100 working perfectly now. Don't know If I want to go down that path again.

Yeah and the catch is: Wireless Dongle sold separately what a joke. When I purchased a Toppy it was apparently this Revised Model as shown which was bought from a Distributor not a retailer and obviously included the Wireless Dongle as standard. Needless to say I now have 2 of these little beauties and both have been rock solid and more importantly SWMBO friendly.

Espically if it's going to retail for $300 more.

Guest Midz Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Yes...IMPO of course. Of course mum didn't want to wait and walked out with a 7150 instead of 7100, coz the guy said it was easier to use. Has already restarted once and deleted the recording. I have also downloaded the rec files and tried to few it no good... freeview DRM goodness!

The 7100 is like a 1970s Ferrari, excellent performance --- when its working. I know a lot of people haven't had problems with this model but many have had major failures with mainboards needing replacement. Also the multitude of firmware created glitches means I would not recommend this model (mine died after 3 months).

DragonFly1503559550 Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 I'm considering one of these. Anyone know what the RRP will be on the TRF2460? The 2400 with the new firmware is exactly the same but it's only 500GB (That's enough for me) So maybe you could get a better deal on the 2400 as it's so last month... but works very well.
441fnd Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 I'm considering one of these. Anyone know what the RRP will be on the TRF2460? According to HN Toowoomba, these are listed on their data base at $1299 RRP. They haven't seen any yet, and do not have any on order as at 4 Dec. I'm interested in one too, but will have to wait for them to come down a bit from that price first. Hopefully others will post prices as they become available. (sorry if this is hijacking this thread. I thought about starting a new one for this model, but I believe there has been discussion about not having threads for every model. moderators can move/delete if required) 441fnd

Don't know stock situation.
441fnd Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 Good Guys Catalog (Melbourne) has these at $699. Don't know stock situation. I had a look at The Good Guys catalogue, and if it is the same one (catalogue) that you are referring to, then that is not the same Toppy. My post was in response to a previous question (which I quoted), and was in reference to the new TRF 2460 Masterpiece. The 2460 has a 1Tb hard drive, not 320 Gb as in the catalogue one. Hope this helps avoid any confusion for readers. As someone has since started a thread regarding the TRF 2460, I'll post any future comments I may have in there.

Started freezing in playback and FTA was skipping...??? Toppy organised a courier to pick up which has been a small drama in itself. Will be at Topfield tomoz. 2 weeks they reckon and i will have it back, I hope (only if its working or continues to work)!
evvs Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 OK, I'll get the ball rolling: Picked up a TF7100HD PLUS (500GB) on the weekend. I'm happy with the quality & features but still getting my head around the menu (ex Digicrystal user). A 3 month IceTv subscription was included so I'm giving that a go. Really nice feature although I've come across one flaw: When the unit is in standby the network option is disconnected. This means that IceTv cannot access it. Not much good if you're not home & need to set up a recording online. I'm reluctant to leave the unit on 24/7 but open to opinions from other users. I also gave the FTP a go when I realised that I couldn't copy folders over to the Toppy through the web interface. I'm accessing it through Windows Explorer (not IE) which gives me that abilty. This seems to work well although I did come across a bug while dragging some files over. I started getting errors at the PC & when I went into the Toppy itself, all files were gone. A reboot of the unit sorted that out. Just wondering whether others use Explorer & if not, what software works best? Any advice from experienced Toppy users would be greatly appreciated. In the meantime, I'll report back with any issues I come across. Evan.

Evan - get yourself onto the Topfield forums at www.itopfield.com.au/forum - there's a discussion forum on the 7100+ - some quick answers: 1. icetv always works by the PVR connecting to icetv.com.au - not the other way around. One way to resolve this is to create some "wake-up" timers, ie. where you turn Record off on the timer. 2. FTP: smartftp or filezilla seems to be some good ones. Windows Explorer I think has a 4GB file limit cheers,
evvs Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Thanks for the info deangelj, I'll check out the Toppy forum when I get a chance. Re: the IceTv thing, I have already set up the timer (without record) but was wondering if there was a better option. Evan.

Evan. No, because when its in standby the network and most other functions are disabled to save power. So you need a way for the PVR to "wakeup" and do its thing. That's exactly what the wakeup timer is for.
Robert E Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 "Plus" doesn't have PIP ? The newer Topfield Australian twin tuner models don't, ie the 2400, 7100+ and 7160. Whether this can be overcome on those with TAP capabilities (2400 and 7100+) is yet to be fully discovered. If you need PIP then the 7100 is the best Topfield option.

Cheers pathfinderti
prl Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 ... if you inadvertently turn the unit off at the power point or have a power failure your IP Address will be renewed which will necessitate re-entering the address into the Filezilla Profile Manager to connect . ... That can be avoided by configuring the DHCP server on your router to assign a fixed address to the PVR.
