Caniffe,

Please count me in.

I would like to split digital radio up into more meaningful subforums.

I would like SD STBs removed as they are almost a thing of the past, and insert HD MPEG-4 STBs and HD MPEG-4 receivers in its place. (Call it Freeview approved if you like). I have performed a survey of all STBs and receivers on line. There are quite a few now even if they don't exactly say so. This is in preparation for the future introduction of MPEG-4 transmissions.

I don't think you should remove SD STBs altogether. They are becoming obsolete, sure, but remain legacy technology which will be used by some for a few years to come, so will still generate questions and discussion. It depends what you want the Forum to be. Is it a place where 'we are all here to help each other' (which I just read, probably Peter Gillespie) or is it a place for the savvy and the professionals. Over and over I have seen newbies being helped with a lot of advice and patience to master the technology. We all have to learn somehow and the real value of DTV Forum is its openness and inclusiveness. It would be a shame if the Forum cut off the very tip of the 'long tail', people who are still using (or choose to use) the simplest of technology.

Alan - youve gone nuts :-)

Weve allready got more SD channels than HD ones. The networks are making new SD channels at the expense of HD quality. If HD bandwidth is reduced anymore it wont be worth watching.

SD still has a place, SD STBs are still widely used.

I agree with everything Foxtrot has said.

It is every prisoners duty to escape from Stalag , Radio.

A persons right to exercise his Freedom Of Speech should always transcend any barriers preventing or stifling that right.

I got binned once ( twice, 3 times a Shady).. and felt I had no option but to create a secondary account, Olie Ollem (...geeezz what does that spell backwards ? ) to ...lets say....comment on certain "conversations" regarding myself.

I felt I was the best person qualified to make any comment regarding myself at the time. I could show you the links to some of the hysteria..if I could really be bothered.

I think you will find that mello has more than just 2 accounts. :D

Can someone tell me what the reason is behind hiding attachments specifically?

I was recently in a library that would not let me log on to this site from a particular terminal, and was not able to open some information in posts I would have liked to view.

It must also be annoying for visitors having to create an account to view something of interest. I wonder how many accounts have been created just for this purpose alone?

Curious. Not like the information isn't in the public domain.

If the question has been answered before, sorry. I didn't bother searching because if I don't frame the search correctly, flood control kicks in and I give up.

I think it;s a bandwidth issue at the DTV server end

I looked for a comment from Caniffe on the subject but so far have been unable to find one.

some of those attachments are sort of personal photos of our HTs, so i thought it was like that to help protect us?

i don't know about anyone else, but i'm too lazy to join somewhere just to see stuff that may or may not interest me

I agree with M'bozo, There would be tons of accounts that would have been opened for that purpose. I think there should be an option to terminate your own account and a rule that if you haven't logged on in 2 years your account is deleted. I have come across some sites that do that and it helps free up user names also.

and we are being spammed at the moment!

I know this is being picky, but can we please drop the new email notification subject (Topic Subscription Reply Notification ( DTV Forum Australia - Australias Leading Digital TV and AV Forum ) and return to the shorter one?

The new subject is so long my outlook no longer has room to show me the date and time the email was sent! besides, we already know it is "Australias Leading Digital TV and AV Forum", it's why we are here!!!!
