Guest Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Do these firmwares ever go release or do we just go from one beta f/w to the next?
renura Posted February 16, 2010 Author Posted February 16, 2010 Do these firmwares ever go release or do we just go from one beta f/w to the next? Sometime it does, other times a new beta version is started before the previous version is finalised.
lefty17 Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 What exactly is wrong with the PVR side?? I am thinking/leaning towards buying this unit, although a bit worried about the PVR side being rubbish going by some comments? Does it do scheduled recording correctly, and like turn itself on/off from sleep/standby when needing to record? Also, is there a newer model coming out soon, should I wait?

If you buy this unit as a PVR you will be very disappointed. Its not a PVR and never will be. If you want a PVR buy a Tivo or Topfield

Ive had a 6600 for about 3 months now and running the latest beta firmware, so far for me it hasn't missed a recording and is performing extremly well. There are still issues with recording and watching a movie at the same time but that should be fixed soon as it was working in an earlier firmware release.
karla4 Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 Sometime it does, other times a new beta version is started before the previous version is finalised. I have had the 6600 for a few months and the 3300 for a bit longer. I am generally quite happy with both units they seem to be generally quite stable. There are 2 things that I bugs me. The main one is the ability to watch a recorded file from the HD while it is recording a program from TV. The second is that when I plug in a pocket USB 2.5" drive it doesn't always come up and I have to try a few times before it does. I have this problem with both units. My firmware on the 6600 is 1.9.1_B5. I have been reading some blogs on MPC and it seems that there have been several versions Beta and Pre Release versions released since then. One of them (1.9.3 I think) was supposed to have record and play at the same time, but it was removed in the next version. Not sure which version is the latest and if it has this feature. I don't necessarily want to upgrade unless it contains the new features that I need. Is there a newer firmware on the 3300 that can also fix the USB problem? Can someone enlighten me?

You can go back to previous firmware as well, since NETWORK LIVE UPDATE provides all available firmware list.
Guest Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Selling my 6600n - $300 In melb if any interest.
lefty17 Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 So is Dvico going to release a firmware that actually allows you to record one or two channels at once whilst being able to play a media file/movie or should I not bother...?
diesel Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 So is Dvico going to release a firmware that actually allows you to record one or two channels at once whilst being able to play a media file/movie or should I not bother...? What do you want the device for - media playing mostly or PVR mostly? If it's PVR, then get something else like Beyonwiz DP-P2, Topfield 2400 or even PS3 PlayTV might be a better option

You can record onto a external hdd via usb right? I think I might take a stab at one of these, I don't need wireless but for $20 extra its probably worth it? (Usually the way I see it, the more crap, the more stuff can go wrong, meh...) Edited March 8, 2010 by lefty17

(Usually the way I see it, the more crap, the more stuff can go wrong, meh...) The 6600a is an excellent media player with PVR functionality, unfortunately DVICO did promise more than it has so far delivered, but trust me there are much worse suppliers. My suggestion is to buy it (if it suits your needs) for what it does today, no what might do tomorrow.
vinnie05 Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Do these firmwares ever go release or do we just go from one beta f/w to the next? lefty17 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 TViX M-6600 Series Public Firmware Rev 1.9.8 has gone live... no beta...I haven't tried it yet but here is the release notes... Ah cool, I'll try it out now, was about to go to bed. Annoying that there still is no option to have subtitles turned always off by default. If I want subtitles to show, I'd want to press the button to turn it on, not have it on by default then turn them off every single time.
lefty17 Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Set up the TV side of things, all good Schedule recording seemed to work (have to check), but I did see the unit automatically turned itself on and recorded the footy Only thing is SBS doesn't show up as like 30,31,32,33, its like 3,4,5,6,8.... not sure why, any ideas?

PioEnthusiast Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 I might be looking at this from a different angle, but if you combine the Media Streaming features of the 6600n and combine that with the dual HD tuners ($449) with a 1.5TB HDD ($150) + IceTV( $99 yr - 3 months free with the purchase of a 6600) and compare that to a Tivo ($649 ) you are getting a comparable PVR with the bonus of a media server. Sure there is the added cost of the IceTV but no other box on the market can have the best of both worlds like the 6600 does (fully functional PVR through IceTV and Media Streaming). Before someone mentions that the $99 a yr for IceTV makes the 6600 more expensive in the long run, you need to realise that Australia is the only country that I know of that doesn't pay a subscription for Tivo and I believe IceTV is working harder to bring in new features which can be incorporated with the 6600 since it's an internet service. Whereas Tivo will more than likely only include future updates with newer boxes so they can sell more hardware as they don't get any more money from existing customers. I also love the ability to change HDD easily, which I don't believe is all that simple with the Tivo, and the benefit of getting the biggest HDD at a very reasonable price as most manufacturers charge an extreme amount for even a TB. This is evident on IceTV's own website when they sell the 6600 with 1yr IceTV subscription and 1TB HDD pre-isntalled for $799, which is $100 more if you buy the HDD from somewhere like scorptec and install it yourself. With the addition of IceTV's full suite of functionality being incorporated just recently, (with some of the latest firmware updates) I believe the in-built PVR features don't even need to be considered. As Ice TV offers features like scheduling recording programs from your iPhone with their free app. Just my thoughts, and justification to me looking to buy the 6600n. I'm keen to hear thoughts and comments on using IceTV on this box, as I have read all 16 pages and only saw it mentioned in one post. I just hope that internet video streaming and movies on demand become an option in the future through the internet interface. Having said that, I think I will try out IceTV's free trial on my PC (Windows 7, run through Media Centre and TV Tuner Card ) to get a feel for their GUI and recording features, before I actually buy the 6600. As I agree with others, there is no point buying the 6600 if you want what I call a "TRUE" PVR (aka Tivo functionality) and Media Server. It really is a Media Server with a bare bones PVR.
PioEnthusiast Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Note sure if anyone has posted this, but there is a new pre-release firmware available. http://www.tvixie.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=1104

vinnie05 Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Latest firmware 1.99 released.http://www.tvix.co.kr/ENG/download/default.aspx?pGroup=TVIX HD&act=RD&pSerial=39 Interesting feature is the new webremote support. Just installed 1.9.9 on my 6640N looks great, new polished home page.. Great new feature is that IceTV Interactive is not supported and active, via iceTV on the web i can now remotely record shows and series etc.. from work, there is also an app for the iphone also iceTV are offering a free 3 month trial of there service http://news.icetv.com.au/news/?p=1602 I have now used a couple of other network media players and i have to say that none i have played with come close to the 6640 on usability, functions and looks. I also like the fact that the guys at tvix are constantly working to make things better.
ssschen Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Apart from PVR Functionality, are there any feature the 6600N has that the smaller sibling HDN1?
renura Posted April 30, 2010 Author Posted April 30, 2010 Apart from PVR Functionality, are there any feature the 6600N has that the smaller sibling HDN1? Of course the main other difference is that the 6600 does support internal hard disk.
