For self preservation I voted no.A lot of my posts maybe/are irrelevant, but the OT is all I got :(:) .If I can help in phone/ADSL problems feel free to ask me.As I like to be of use.

Paul.

Umm Lyle

I dont think Chats was talking to Caniffe

....and I believe you may have let the cat out of the bag regarding "agendas" ..hidden or otherwise ...he never said anything like that either

???

just fixed your post mate

:P:winky:

briefly............indeed..................post counts..............what ever............i'm not getting paid for it ..............what gives me the shits is just because i don't spend countless hours on here picking the pieces out of this high tech thing or that bit.............i'm regarded as a second class citizen around here because i choose to have a laugh or discussion some where else.

if that's the case, well you can........................

just when i thought things had settled down too..................as for taking a chill pill :angry2:

I vote to not display any post counts altogether. :o

Double pass.

When this issue was brought up before I remember asking what would happen to the overall post count for DTV forum if the OT posts were deleted? Like I said I voted "no" to it, and I must admit to being mildly surprised by the number of "yes" votes.

It would've been nice to see more explanations from some of the "yes" voters as to why they voted that way, or if indeed how many people who voted "yes" ever ventured into the OT forums?

If it does go through as a "yes" perhaps we should also discuss the possibility of

adjusting the milestone triggers (the colour telly "thingys...") and also re-consider

how many posts should one make before they become a senior member?

To some members, the above factors may be more important than overall post counts.......

Chats, you're a second class citizen not because you frequent the OT area but because of the footy team you support........... :o:huh::D:lol::P

Welllllll, we're third if turn the table upside down.

Anyway dig, we can only go up for you guys the only way is downnnnnn.................:P

With all due respect; I realise that there's no "ban, removal or censorship" of OT posts being proposed, and that what you are proposing is an incremental change to the post counter... and I obviously have no objection, because I've already agreed to abide by the guidelines for DTV forums useage - which is why I see no need to vote.

Being able to gauge whether the proposal is going to be well received by all of the mebership is another matter altogether - so, I can understand the necessity for a poll which may indicate the level and degree of emotion surrounding such a proposal.

I guess it'd be fairer to see a stated failure to vote as an abstention, rather than a "boycott".

Speaking only for myself; the word boycott implies a level of objection and rejection on the abstainer's behalf that is very far from the sense of acceptance I have of the forum's right to make adjustments or changes as seen fit, regardless of how I might or might not vote.

Just my personal two pennies worth...

Maybe it was my use of the word 'protest' that prompted Caniffe to refer to a boycott, but mello hit the nail on the head. It was more a response to those that add complete shite to other forums with their 'Blu' this and 'Best Price' that, yet feel compelled to take a swipe at OT.

I think your post here Steve sums it up best. Do what you feel is best Caniffe. We're going to have fun either way, and something tells me that is all you're really concerned about anyway. B)

Better make it four pennies, Steve. ;)

I vote to not display any post counts altogether. :o

+1 :ninja:

:apathy attack:

Welll..... as some of you know, ive been dabbling in some time travel detective work of late verifying certain claims made in the OT regarding 386 based computer being sent back in time and the likes of nostrodamus getting access to some shitty french cd's covering history and astronomy etc... During my extensive research (damn did I mention this aluminium is really chaffing my boys?) ive discovered that its OT post counts that powered this 386 (cos there was no power back in the old days).. Without them we'd have a time paradox - possibly ending in a low level post-count-singularity - thats bad for you non-delta T influenced time-scientists/detectives.. As a risk management strategy ive started a thread (known as a time-fracture) about ariels in a post-counted area to enable a new time-line so we dont end up smooshed on the event horizon of the time-singularity.. the more pictures of ariels or antennas in lay terms, the more delta-t potential energy we can store the longer the 386 can be powered should the OT's be OTed.. Im still researching parallel dimension (parallel world) theory to see if we can bridge (channel) energy across from another world where OT posts are counted, ive put in an ebay order for a machina dymetica jar of magic pebbles, blue papers and a time device (known as an orange travel clock) which according to my collegues when combined may create a portal to a parallel world - people have been using this technology without fully undestanding why; blue paper under speakers actually creates a one way time-space vortex (not as clean as a portal or tunnel) to a parallel universe - in the same space-time its actually channeling through audio from yourself but in a world where youve blown your cash on better speakers and amps than say blowing it on cheap hookers from white van professional adult services... anyway the point is - we need the OT post counts - there are too many variables to possibly compute (on a 386) to adequatly mitigate the risks of not counting them and risking destroying not only our world, but this entire universe!

Cheers,

Bitey, time detective & prohpet.

That should be all the evidence you need Caniffe, that +1 or +0, some of us ( ) are just going to dribble sh!t anyway. We've never discriminated on location... :P

(Oh, and similarly to AndrewW, a +1 to Foggy's suggestion. :ninja: )

i like the idea of no post counter in general as well, per Foggy's suggestion, though would still like to see the funky group icons. :)

Just had a rare thought: not displaying post counters might have impacts on the use of the red text thread, and also when users complain of not being able to PM.

Just had a rare thought:

Well done :winky:

Hey!! how come he got a double pass and I didnt

Do I get popcorn ?

Which might mean the neccessary removal of that particular barrier since I don't really see how it stops the "baddies" anyway.

Some boards outside that don't display post counts do still show them if you visit a members' profile or the "members list".

Overall, I haven't really seen a valid arguement for changing anything anyway. IMO it ain't broke so why fix it?

I vote to not display any post counts altogether. :o

Foggy that would throw the whole ranking system into utter anarchial chaos resulting in newbs having the same importance as ordinary citizens and OT regulars being classed as equals

Its revolutionary and shows laterally sideways thinking

Its before its time would upset some and never be adopted by the Ruling Class

I love it

Therin lies the crutch PZ....you have hit the hammer right on the head :)

Caniffe asked to debate and bring in valid points to The Table

That would include those who want it changed ....of course :winky:

I am yet to hear ONE valid reason for change ( that doesnt sound elitist, separatist, convincing ....or even logical )

One Web

One Man

One Vote

One to the Count

...( and none to the Queen )

:winky:B)

you have hit the hammer right on the head :)

Shouldn't that be nail :ninja:

No no...nails were for Crucifixions......two doors down to the left...

Hammers....you know....The Wall ?? ...no no..not Stardust

but how can i forget the wall. It left me comfortably numb. :winky:

FWIW I think the basic rationale for having a post count is twofold. Firstly, it gives some indication on who the most knowledgeable people on the forum are. Secondly it gives them some recognition for volunteering expertise to help others.

Not counting OT posts would not impact either of those.

But Caniffe has to ask himself if chaning the post count rules would lessen the incentive for people to visit the forum and thus the advertising revenues the forum pulls in.
