It has been discussed previously, and now with a larger user base the post count-o-meter is perceived to be rising in importance.

If you vote no, you are indicating post counts should remain true for any post, regardless of quantity.

If you vote yes, you are indicating that post counts should be stripped for posts that are deemed not contributing to DTV.

What say you?

Is this just talking about removing the post count for posts made in OT, or are you implying that there will be a way of flagging posts in the general (ie non OT) forums as "not on topic" and therefore having them not included in the post count ?

If it's option 2, then this could be well and truly open to abuse (remember the user rating debacle ?)

I voted Yes anyway, even though it means my post count will go down by around 1100 posts (assuming you are talking about removing the OT posts from the post count).

Without going Whirlpool on people, I believe we would have to invoke lower tolerance on OT posts in the main forums.

Ok sorry but I'm confused (nothing new I know ), are you taliking about removing posts from the OT itself from the post count or deleting off topic posts from the rest of the sections of the forum or both?

How are you going to police OT posts in the on topic arena, no offence, but it's hard enough policing the abusive posts etc. for you guys (I wouldn't like the job, don't get me wrong!)

Most people in the OT arena are valued contributors of the forum (Myself excluded ) They are respected above and below board

It's the Off Topic forum where people who share a common interest in DTV can discuss other things as well.

It's been placed right down the bottom of the board, out of the way, and it's not as if it's compulsory reading.

Most other boards have an off-topic section and it doesn't seem to take away any of that boards' reason for existence.

On the strength of that, I voted no. But for me personally, it's not the end of the world as far as post counts go.

As far as I know, the OT forum can be filtered out automatically but OT posts in the DTV area are moderated as per usual.

I'd take a guess that these 2 threads would be excluded from the "no OT posts" rule, and they don't live in the OT forum, so they would still boost post count.

OT accounts for almost 83,000 posts ..stretching as far back as 2003 and mostly IS DTV related from its inception. You just have to look between the lines.

83,000 posts makes it the fourth largest resource on the website and I do believe also an advertising asset.

What does that tell you ? It tells me it reflects the general DISSATISFACTION with FTA and Pay TV that people on almost over 83,000 occasions found it more entertaining than TV or HT..or even DRM for that matter.

Have a quick scout around the Pay Tv , HD TV , Reception Issues, Watermarks, Austar/Foxtel, Program contents, Advertising, EPGs threads and you will see a huge DISSATISFACTION with FTA in general and a wholesale erosion of services and an upsurge in contempt by the very Broadcasters who rely on this website to push their wares...and yet they still refuse to listen..ah well their loss

I havent voted either way actually, as post counts are not really my priority but I do believe that if someone goes to the trouble of posting whatever ..it should still count. Its all a question of perceptions from there on.

I do agree it does at times sound and look more like a chatline for pre-pubescent teenagers..but do a quick search in the rest of the forum for terms like "doodz" and "totally" and Ill think youll get my drift as to where most of the "shite" actually is
