KOAZ Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Thanks bellotv. My unit must be worse than the ones you tested because even with the sensor in the unit completely covered mine will not power on using the remote sensor. My supplier is going to test a couple he has today so we will see what his results are. I would also have thought that connecting the external sensor would disable the internal one but that definitely doesn't happen on mine. All functions work using either sensor except the power on as previously mentioned. skywatch any updates on the issues you are havng with the HHT890? thinking of getting this HD STB, should i be concerned ? koaz
SLE3551503562118 Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 I've got my external sensor sitting right next to the unit and its working fine, didnt know it had an internal one!
bellotv Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Koaz Appears there are a few extenal sensors that are dud.99% of purchasers probably wouldn't use or need it anyway. Otherwise these are a first class HD STB.The up/down scaling is excellant compared to many boxes I've seen.Get one you ,won't be dissapointed.
I am not a duck Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 (edited) Marc,When you said that you had no problems, was the STB and remote both visable to the remote? I have just tried it now with both sensors visible to the remote. The STB (serial number 700470) turns off & can be turned back on again after the yellow led illuminates, which is almost straight away. (It will not turn off again until after the "boot - good" sequence finishes.) Edited March 2, 2008 by M'bozo

Some boxes create very noticable artifacts in the process .Some alter the aspect ratio in unpredictable ways.

Guest 54Sandgroper Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Get one you ,won't be dissapointed. Don't hold your breath. Ordered a couple from Radio Parts last Monday (25/2). Still no sign of it. No reply to email sent on Friday. Order status is "Picking slip printed." Okay, I'm in Perth so I don't expect next day delivery, but an update to the order status and an email to say it's been shipped would be reassuring seeing as they already have my money.

Thanks for the reply M'bozo . I do like the feature whereby turning on the TV (or any other remote activity) will bring the HHT890 out of standby.Customers love this .Turn on the TV and the STB automatically turns on as well. Noticed a quirk about these STBs regarding output resolution. If you set the resolution to say 1080i and then use the POWER on/off (240 v switch on the front) ,it will come back on not nessecarily on 1080i.(probably 576i factory default) The trick is to cycle on/off with the remote once .This then stores resolution so that power on/off will boot up as you last left it.

skywatch Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 HHT890 IR command Hex Codes are now available for Theatre Integrators from www.healingdigital.com/products/hht890-hexcodes.htm Sorry for the slow reply. I have no further update on the remote sensor problem. My supplier has yet to reply re any tests at his end. A few other observations. I have had 2 instances of picture pixalation. It appeared to be on all channels. The first time a power off/on corrected the problem. The second was worse and several power off/on cycles did not fix it. Then it just seemed to come good and has not reoccured. At the time of the second problem I checked for local interference using another digital tuner on the same antenna and it was fine (Digicrystal SDT-9000PVR). This problem has not reoccurred for about a week. Re picture quality, using a 15" 4:3 LCD TV, the quality using S Video input is at least as good as the Digicrystal PVR. On composite video it is not quite as sharp as the Digicrystal but still quite good. I have yet to try the HDMI output on my Samsung 40" M81 full HD set. The box does run quite hot and musy NOT have anything on top of it. The whole top of the cast has ventilation slots. It also is quite warm in standby mode. Someone mentioned that their unit automatically powers on when the TV is powered on. Mine does not do that. The only thing that turns it on is it's own remote control. Overall I am happy with the unit. Would be nice if it had a VGA output but I guess you cant have everything.

Okay, I'm in Perth so I don't expect next day delivery, but an update to the order status and an email to say it's been shipped would be reassuring seeing as they already have my money. After no response to email or web-form contact, a phone call finally did the trick. They claim that they had been out of stock. If they'd sent an email saying that earlier, it wouldn't have caused such angst. Arrived this morning (7/3).

Guest 54Sandgroper Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 (edited) Okay, had it going for nearly a week now. A few observations. I'm not using the remote sensor, so I can't comment on that. Pros: 1. Outstanding reception! Using the same aerial as the OpenTel PVR, haven't seen pixellation at all, not even on SBS which was often dodgy and occasionally unwatchable. 2. 7-Day EPG is an unexpected bonus. 3. It's much smaller than I expected. Cons: 1. The remote and menus aren't nearly as intuitive as the Healing SD box I've had for a couple of years. 2. Runs a fair bit hotter than the other Healing. 3. Vents in the top so it can't be stacked. 4. It's a bit slow switching channels using the channel-number buttons. Maybe a second or so. All in all, a very satisfactory unit. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a quality unit at a reasonable price. Edited March 14, 2008 by 54Sandgroper
tribal-warrior Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 (edited) M’bozo: “To further expand, S-video & composite outputs are only available when resolution is set to 576i or 576p, otherwise a message appears on a screen connected to these outputs advising to select 576i from the remote.†Forgive me as I am completely new to the world of DTV but when you mention changing to 576i or 576p, do you mean doing this on the TV or on the STB? I have an analogue Sharp TV bought in about 2000 and I would have my doubts that it has the option of changing resolution settings. However, I would like to use the S-video connection with it (and maybe even Component) when I get an STB. Edited March 17, 2008 by tribal-warrior
MitreBin Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 I got my Healing HHT890 yesterday from Radio Parts, and connected it with my LG widescreen CRT using the component setup. Initial panic as I got a split screen (black line down the middle) and pressing the resolution buttons didn't fix it UNTIL I did a quick search, got some channels and then the resolution button worked, found 576i and Bingo.. Perfect picture. Very Impressed with the signal strength. I live in Kiama 130Km south of Sydney and am getting 7,9and 10 HD channels @ 85% signal and 95 - 100% quality. Just the occasional pixelating on 7HD. Wife most impressed with the remote RCU sensor. Able to close the bottom TV unit doors at last (DVD, SD-STB always been down there with the doors open), so she's impressed with the "tidy" look - MitreBin
I am not a duck Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 when you mention changing to 576i or 576p, do you mean doing this on the TV or on the STB? The resolution setting is on the STB, so if your Sharp has external AV inputs this box will work fine for you,. (Providing, of course, you are in an area receiving digital broadcasts and your reception system is up to scratch.)
tribal-warrior Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 M'bozo: "The resolution setting is on the STB, so if your Sharp has external AV inputs this box will work fine for you,." Thanks for confirming that. (Though my preference would be to use S-video rather than the yellow of the AV inputs.) "(Providing, of course, you are in an area receiving digital broadcasts and your reception system is up to scratch.)" My reception is fine the majority of the time with regards to receiving analogue broadcasts so I just hope the same can be said for digital broadcasts. Though I did read somewhere on this forum that it is still possible to get lousy digital reception even if analogue reception is fine. I live close to the city in Adelaide so I'm only assuming that my area receives digital broadcasts.

Jason_s Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Hi all, New member to the forum and first time post..... I have a Healing HD HHT890 box, audio is connected via optical cable into a Kenwood amp, it does not output 5.1 ? previously had a teac box (got rid of the teac as it had bad picuture quality) connected and it output 5.1 with the same set-up, so its not the amp. Any ideas what the issue could be ????
Turkey Tom Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Bought this box today from RadioParts in East Malvern (Melbourne) - $149. First impressions are quiet good. Setting up was easy. Connection quality seems to be better than my old Thomson SD box...but you would hope so. I do have reception problems because of my battered roof aerial (thanks to possums), but the box does seem to be more 'forgiving' than the old Thomson. Instead of pixelation there is blurring when there are signal problems (on certain atmospheric conditions like today). Switching to my indoor aerial (because of the reception problems) works fine, and again seems to be more forgiving. Don't have to fiddle as much with the indoor aerial to get the required reception. As mentioned in previous posts, the box is small compared to other HD boxes I've seen. Picture quality is good (via S-Video to Scart on my SD Loewe CRT) and I can see all the quality programs on the HD channels. As for the 5.1 issue mentioned by Jason_s - I'm not getting 5.1 either, but as I'm new to HD I'm not sure if I should be or not, or whether it is just when the TV station decides to broadcast a program in 5.1?????

tribal-warrior Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Just to confirm a few details.... I have a 4:3 Sharp TV and I guess if am receiving a HD 16:9 broadcast through the Healing HD box, I'll get a letterbox format picture (black borders on the top and bottom), right? I am also assuming that the Healing has the option to fill the entire screen with the image, cutting off the left and right sides of the picture and maintaining correct proportions? Similarly, Ive noticed with some cheap set top boxes, when you receive a 4:3 broadcast on a 4:3 TV, you get a black border surrounding the whole image, resulting in an overall smaller picture. With this Healing box, would a 4:3 broadcast fill the screen of a 4:3 TV with no borders in sight?
