haha - more weirdness. The faithful cardboard box has been replaced by a metal drum that snake can "sneak" using. He can also roll in it to do a drum attack. But the rolling makes him ill, so when he gets out, he vomits. To make himself feel better, he whips out a girlie magazine and sits down in the middle of the battlefield to watch it.

You really couldn't make this stuff up - I love the Japanese :D

I think the graphics are generally very nice indeed but i'm not sold on the gameplay yet.

Exactly.

I only played MGS3 on PS2 and that's enough to turn me off.

30 hours of video clip and 5 hours of gameplay.

Go play WoW or something :)

Anyway, the Metal Gear Solid franchise (haven't played the original Metal Gear's so I can't comment on them) have always been driven by video sequences and dialogue rather than endless repetition of the same old gameplay found in RPG's which obviously have the scope to offer a more content rich environment. MGS's gameplay itself I find quite the breath of fresh air with it's unique approach which sets it apart in a genre of its own. The game has replay value, try it on different difficulties, beat it without using unneccessary leathal force etc.

Sounds like the tripe that was Final Fantasy 10....the only gameplay I had was throwing a basketball at a monster that looked like a giant flower and couple it with crappy voice acting, laughable dialogue and just cliches everywhere.

I've played MGS Sons of Liberty on the Xbox and I found it total rubbish, for similar above reasons, the silly fighting bosses at the end was so 1980's. It's something inherent in many japanese video games I have seldom played a japanese game that I liked, most of the time I find many of them totally silly, hence why I tend to prefer games from US or European studio's.

Blasphemy! :o:o

FF are the best games ever! :P

Well it may have crappy dialogue but gameplay is superb. I spent at least 100 hours on the game and that's value for money!

I spent heaps of time on FF10 as well. It was my first PS2 game. And I also love my Japanese games cos they provide something different to all the FPS games that seem to come out of the US

Final Fantasy's 100 hour gameplay is really just the first 10 minutes reproduced 600 times.

I'm not bashing the game or anything, I really liked Final Fantasy 10, but the gameplay isn't exactly groundbreaking, or even exciting.

JMO.

Amen to that....fighting silly monsters, as corny as the ones from Power Rangers.

After "playing" and enjoying the first I haven't played any of the others. To be honest I couldn't quite bring myself to sit though the often bizarre cut scenes and dialogue. I would love it if part 4 kinda stuck to the gaming part of the game and did away with the pseudo doomsday/socialogical/religious mumbo jumbo.

Same here... I had played the first on the PSX, tried to play MGS3 on PS2, but after playing Splinter Cell on PC, it was hard to get into MGS3.

The demo by Kojima himself looks pretty impressive I must say; I will definitely give MGS4 a go when its released.
